CHARACTER NAME: A.B.A CANON: Guilty Gear CANON POINT: End of her arcade story in Strive BACKGROUND:Here SUITABILITY: As much of a coward as A.B.A is, she's always had a strong sense of curiosity, which keeps her interacting with the world. Already a traveler long before showing up here, she'll be interested in things like exploration, as well as learning all that she can about this world's history and biology. (There's an entire species of living keys?!?) Despite how dependent she is on her husband, Paracelsus, his absence is actually a blessing as far as RP goes. She's shy, but she hates being alone, so it means she's more likely to reach out to people to fill the void he's left behind. She's terrified of people taking him away from her, and yet she doesn't have to worry about that if he's already gone. The setting itself is also incredibly helpful because people are less intimidating to interact with when most of the population is so small and adorable, while she herself would be coming in as a rather large Pokémon. Some Pokémon are easier to interact with than others. For instance, A.B.A was enthralled with Mimikyu Shoka because she reminded her of her creepy dolls from back home, ignoring her insults much like she used to do with Paracelsus when they first met. On the other hand, she was super wary of Gallade Kiruko, who was trying really hard to be friendly, because she was still very human looking.
My main goals for A.B.A are to find people who are patient enough to help her learn how to be a person. She was only just starting to make friends in canon, and I want to explore what it'd be like if she actually got the support she needs. That isn't to say I intend to "fix" her, she's still going to be her wonderfully quirky self and she'll continue to interact with the world in a way only an artificial person can, but it'd be nice is she had healthier ways to cope when things get a little too much for her or she finds herself overstimulated.
Deep down, A.B.A considers herself a good person, but her morals can get skewed in ways that are fun to play with. She has a strong interest in law, but is highly susceptible to manipulation and is willing to excuse unsavory behaviors if they help her achieve her goals. That said, as of Strive, Paracelsus has gone on a "Wait a minute, what I was doing was kind of messed up, no violence from now on" streak, so she isn't causing AS much trouble as she used to. I would really like her to meet people to keep her on that right track and maybe learn to direct her abilities into actually being helpful. Her theme song does imply she wants to make a difference in the world, I'd love to play with that idea. As notoriously difficult as she can be to work with, she DOES value kindness in the end, and I think it'd be fun if she met people who could work around her ego, pull its strings in a way that steer her into the right direction. For example, as of the TDM, she's already convinced if she builds up enough favors, the Pokémon of this world would have no choice but to fulfil a favor for her.
QUESTIONNAIRE:
⟡ Your character is on an exploration quest when they find an injured Pokemon in need of help. This Pokemon appears to be in distress and is quite dangerous, posing a risk to your character even if they mean well, and putting your quest mission at risk. What do they do? What are some possibilities of how they work with teammates to address this, or do they go at it alone?
• It's like looking into a mirror... Not that A.B.A is self aware enough to realize that. If A.B.A feels threatened enough, she will respond with matching aggression and will more than likely try to take the injured Pokémon out before it can strike her or her team down. She's from a fighting game after all, so she comes from a world where slash first, ask questions later is a very reasonable solution. That said, she's hopefully working with people who understand that about her and can get her to hold back before they try much more reasonable solutions. If that takes too long, or A.B.A notices nothing is working, it's possible she'll grow impatient and jump into action. Ideally, she's there in case things go sour, like a bodyguard of sorts. Either way, a knocked out Pokémon is still a breathing Pokémon, so if she has to carry an unconscious Pokémon back to safety, that's still a success as far as she's concerned.
Considering that she's spent the entirety of her time with Paracelsus lugging him around, you can absolutely bet she would continue to carry a knocked out Pokémon throughout the rest of the mission, provided the Pokémon in question wasn't their mission to begin with. It will be absurd, but it'll remind her of old times and might even be strangely comforting... Yes, even if the Pokémon in question is quite large. Have you seen her husband? He was huge.
⟡ Your character's worst enemy has recently appeared in game, and has joined the guild your character is part of. They both want to tackle the same quest, and your character's enemy suggests that they work together as a team to accomplish this goal. How does your character respond to this?
• There would be no hiding that she'd make this as difficult as possible, the unlucky individual would have to deal with her screaming and insulting them the entire time, while also being stubborn and much more reluctant to cooperate. A.B.A rarely wants to take orders as it is, and chances are she'd simply refuse any from this hypothetical partner. Either that, or she'll try to be the one in charge and start barking orders, her weird way of trying to take control of the situation. That said, she's....still somehow there! Provided no one reassigns her to something else after seeing her initial reaction, A.B.A will still at least try to complete the quest in order to get closer to her goals, just...on her own terms. Basically, it'd be more of a comical struggle than a serious one.
It should be noted that A.B.A doesn't really...have a worst enemy, but she has plenty of characters she would rather not work with. Some of which are actually friendly towards her! This is why I can only see this scenario as comical, it really would just play out as A.B.A being a brat the entire time instead of anything where she has to worry about people being in real danger. If A.B.A really did feel like the person in question was dangerous, they're transformed now, so their prior abilities aren't anything for her to worry about! She's been hopefully honing her own abilities as a Pokémon by this point, so her confidence in handling the situation would be up there, if only because she tends to think pretty highly of herself. She's a coward, she hates confrontation, but she knows she can fight and defend herself.
⟡ The leader of your character's guild has just approached your character with an offer: they will provide your character with extra supplies, reputation points, and help them with any of their current struggles. In exchange, they ask for your character to do a favor for them that may harm the other guilds, and will not specify what the favor is in advance. It sounds shady, but it's the deal of a lifetime in your character's path to get back home, and refusing it may cause strife for your character within their current guild. What do they think of this offer? What do they ultimately decide to do?
• Sadly, A.B.A is very easily manipulated in these sorts of situations. In an earlier game, she had zero issues kidnapping another character for someone just because they promised they could help her with her Paracelsus-related goals. This is what I mean when I say she's willing to rationalize her behavior when it comes to questionable activities, all her virtues seem to get push aside once her husband is involved. This is no different, getting back home means getting back to Paracelsus, and she'd like to do that as soon as possible. She'd accept without thinking about it.
That said, in her current canon point, she seemed awfully nervous around that person she kidnapped when they bumped into each other again. (And it even appeared like she was forgiven!!) It's completely possible that A.B.A may have realized what she did was wrong and although she'd accept the request without thinking, that doesn't mean she won't think about it later. Fool me once, shame on you, etc etc. Depending on HOW shady the offer turns out to be when the time comes, she may back out last second. Whoops. I'd, of course, be willing to play with the repercussions, regardless of how much A.B.A would throw a fit about them.
⟡ Due to shortages on supplies, the city is facing issues deciding where to cut corners during this rough time. Somehow, the responsibility has fallen on your character's shoulders, and they have to make a decision. If they send out an extra team of Pokemon, they will be able to gather more food, and through that, save the lives of dozens of starving Pokemon that were in dire need of nutrition. However, the only Pokemon available to scout for food are those working at the pokeclinic, and sending them out would mean certain death for at least two ill patients. What does your character decide to do? How do they feel about this choice, and how would they deal with the pushback that comes from either side?
• She'd be so happy that they came to her for advise, how could you do this to her? At first, A.B.A will see the logic in sending the medics out into the field. She prides herself in being a logical person, someone who is superior to humans because she doesn't base her actions on emotions.....but that couldn't be further from the truth. A.B.A is an incredibly emotional person, so much so that her jealousy became a new mechanic for her Strive inclusion. The moment she sees those sick Pokémon is the moment she shoots the idea down and everyone will just have to rough it. A.B.A may even question why she can't just go out and gather food herself, seeing as she's so strong and oh so capable. Her decision would be amplified if the ill Pokémon in question are her friends, or even just a species of Pokémon she's particularly fond of.
....if one of them was a character she hated, however, the medic working on them can go out and have fun gathering food. She can be pretty petty that way. It'd be a very obvious pettiness, though, so I don't know how serious they'd take her on that one.
In the end, it will be the last time A.B.A will ever look forward to being in charge of a large decision like that. Anyone who has any issue with her choices will be met with her usual temper until they go away, just like how she deals with most of her problems.
POKEMON: Shiny Silvally! As a lab-grown person, it only makes sense to make her a lab-grown Pokémon. Being a homunculus is very important to A.B.A, she's proud of it, so I want her Pokémon to reflect that. Since A.B.A's other special interest is the color blue, specifically an ocean blue, I'd like the memory she comes in with be the water-type. I think she'd really enjoy being aquatic and surrounding herself in her favorite color, and she'd be much more eager to take on underwater missions. Honestly, I don't see her wanting to change types all that often. If she does obtain more memories, I'll be sure to play with that idea that they'll mess with her head, further emphasizing that the water one is good. Water is safe.
The shininess is just because it matches her color scheme more.
GUILD OPT-OUT: Opting out of Cheri Berries.
I don't have any particular preference for the other two guilds, I think she could easily thrive in both! However, they'd totally take her down two completely different paths:
Oran A.B.A would focus more on overcoming her fears and learning to hone her fighting abilities so that they're actually useful to society. With Mightyena also being a reckless fighter, A.B.A wouldn't feel the need to actually change who she is in order to make this happen. I'm actually surprised how much they have in common! She already got a taste of saving people on the TDM and liked the strange feeling of satisfaction it brought her, so it'd be fun to see her explore that. The Oran Berries are also the "blue one" and stationed next to the sea, so she'd just love that regardless.
A Lum A.B.A would focus more on her love for reading and learning, taking advantage of the library whenever possible. With a smaller focus on fighting, she wouldn't feel pulled out of her comfort zone nearly as much, and would happily embrace jobs that require recording information and notetaking. It was already something she was doing before, but now people want her to do it?! She already considers herself a knowledgeable and logical person, so having it acknowledged by being invited to a guild that values those traits would really feed her ego. ...That, and easier access to fashion is a huge plus for her.
Mightyena first finds dear A.B.A on the beach. She's been there quite often, hasn't she? Mightyena, too, is a lover of the ocean, and looking upon this form, an unusual Pokemon she's never seen before, something unnatural, forced, twisted— she feels not pity, but sympathy. There's capability beyond those eyes of being welcomed even into the esteemed Lum Berries, but Mightyena is certain that Polteageist hasn't even given her a second glance, with the tantrums she's been throwing.
But Mightyena feels a sort of kinship with this girl at once. The cries across the beach, the fighting, the shouting. Today had been the announcement of guilds allowing newcomers into their ranks, and to be perfectly honest, she's not sure if anyone has approached A.B.A yet. But it's sunset when she approaches, tail swaying in slow, sweeping motions behind herself as she accepts any startled yell or shout about that "husband" or killing or who-knows-what with an even face.
"When I'm feeling the most overwhelmed... there are two things I do. I either come to this beach and watch the tide change, or I fight."
Fighting, after all, is a great way of speaking physically. Body to body, impact to shielding, learning your opponent through moves alone, feeling their emotions through the swipe of claws or the stomping of feet. She steps closer, leaving pawprints in the sand.
"Why don't we spar?"
From there, A.B.A can spar Mightyena or not. If she doesn't, Mightyena instead offers to watch the waves. If she does, she'll find that Mightyena is surprisingly strong and witty in combat, and likely due largely to the differences in the comfort of their own forms, she wins. After their spar, she'll still suggest watching the waves, splashing her front paws into the oncoming water with an added bit of energy, especially if they got to fight.
"I can't imagine what you must be going through, but the truth is that no one can. We can only try." Another splash, and she turns, head tilting in consideration. "Join the Oran Berries. You can certainly use the practice getting used to that new body of yours, and I think you'd be an irreplaceable member to the team."
Kind words coming from a gruff face, a body still fidgeting from the excitement of spar (or spar potential). If A.B.A agrees, Mightyena will wag her tail a few times, though visibly trying to hold it back. She has other duties to attend to now, but should A.B.A want to speak to her later, she will be available down the line.
