CHARACTER
NAME: A.B.A
CANON: Guilty Gear
CANON POINT: End of her arcade story in Strive
BACKGROUND: Here
SUITABILITY:
As much of a coward as A.B.A is, she's always had a strong sense of curiosity, which keeps her interacting with the world. Already a traveler long before showing up here, she'll be interested in things like exploration, as well as learning all that she can about this world's history and biology. (There's an entire species of living keys?!?) Despite how dependent she is on her husband, Paracelsus, his absence is actually a blessing as far as RP goes. She's shy, but she hates being alone, so it means she's more likely to reach out to people to fill the void he's left behind. She's terrified of people taking him away from her, and yet she doesn't have to worry about that if he's already gone. The setting itself is also incredibly helpful because people are less intimidating to interact with when most of the population is so small and adorable, while she herself would be coming in as a rather large Pokémon. Some Pokémon are easier to interact with than others. For instance, A.B.A was enthralled with Mimikyu Shoka because she reminded her of her creepy dolls from back home, ignoring her insults much like she used to do with Paracelsus when they first met. On the other hand, she was super wary of Gallade Kiruko, who was trying really hard to be friendly, because she was still very human looking.

My main goals for A.B.A are to find people who are patient enough to help her learn how to be a person. She was only just starting to make friends in canon, and I want to explore what it'd be like if she actually got the support she needs. That isn't to say I intend to "fix" her, she's still going to be her wonderfully quirky self and she'll continue to interact with the world in a way only an artificial person can, but it'd be nice is she had healthier ways to cope when things get a little too much for her or she finds herself overstimulated.

Deep down, A.B.A considers herself a good person, but her morals can get skewed in ways that are fun to play with. She has a strong interest in law, but is highly susceptible to manipulation and is willing to excuse unsavory behaviors if they help her achieve her goals. That said, as of Strive, Paracelsus has gone on a "Wait a minute, what I was doing was kind of messed up, no violence from now on" streak, so she isn't causing AS much trouble as she used to. I would really like her to meet people to keep her on that right track and maybe learn to direct her abilities into actually being helpful. Her theme song does imply she wants to make a difference in the world, I'd love to play with that idea. As notoriously difficult as she can be to work with, she DOES value kindness in the end, and I think it'd be fun if she met people who could work around her ego, pull its strings in a way that steer her into the right direction. For example, as of the TDM, she's already convinced if she builds up enough favors, the Pokémon of this world would have no choice but to fulfil a favor for her.

QUESTIONNAIRE:

Your character is on an exploration quest when they find an injured Pokemon in need of help. This Pokemon appears to be in distress and is quite dangerous, posing a risk to your character even if they mean well, and putting your quest mission at risk. What do they do? What are some possibilities of how they work with teammates to address this, or do they go at it alone?

It's like looking into a mirror... Not that A.B.A is self aware enough to realize that. If A.B.A feels threatened enough, she will respond with matching aggression and will more than likely try to take the injured Pokémon out before it can strike her or her team down. She's from a fighting game after all, so she comes from a world where slash first, ask questions later is a very reasonable solution. That said, she's hopefully working with people who understand that about her and can get her to hold back before they try much more reasonable solutions. If that takes too long, or A.B.A notices nothing is working, it's possible she'll grow impatient and jump into action. Ideally, she's there in case things go sour, like a bodyguard of sorts. Either way, a knocked out Pokémon is still a breathing Pokémon, so if she has to carry an unconscious Pokémon back to safety, that's still a success as far as she's concerned.

Considering that she's spent the entirety of her time with Paracelsus lugging him around, you can absolutely bet she would continue to carry a knocked out Pokémon throughout the rest of the mission, provided the Pokémon in question wasn't their mission to begin with. It will be absurd, but it'll remind her of old times and might even be strangely comforting... Yes, even if the Pokémon in question is quite large. Have you seen her husband? He was huge.

Your character's worst enemy has recently appeared in game, and has joined the guild your character is part of. They both want to tackle the same quest, and your character's enemy suggests that they work together as a team to accomplish this goal. How does your character respond to this?

There would be no hiding that she'd make this as difficult as possible, the unlucky individual would have to deal with her screaming and insulting them the entire time, while also being stubborn and much more reluctant to cooperate. A.B.A rarely wants to take orders as it is, and chances are she'd simply refuse any from this hypothetical partner. Either that, or she'll try to be the one in charge and start barking orders, her weird way of trying to take control of the situation. That said, she's....still somehow there! Provided no one reassigns her to something else after seeing her initial reaction, A.B.A will still at least try to complete the quest in order to get closer to her goals, just...on her own terms. Basically, it'd be more of a comical struggle than a serious one.

It should be noted that A.B.A doesn't really...have a worst enemy, but she has plenty of characters she would rather not work with. Some of which are actually friendly towards her! This is why I can only see this scenario as comical, it really would just play out as A.B.A being a brat the entire time instead of anything where she has to worry about people being in real danger. If A.B.A really did feel like the person in question was dangerous, they're transformed now, so their prior abilities aren't anything for her to worry about! She's been hopefully honing her own abilities as a Pokémon by this point, so her confidence in handling the situation would be up there, if only because she tends to think pretty highly of herself. She's a coward, she hates confrontation, but she knows she can fight and defend herself.

The leader of your character's guild has just approached your character with an offer: they will provide your character with extra supplies, reputation points, and help them with any of their current struggles. In exchange, they ask for your character to do a favor for them that may harm the other guilds, and will not specify what the favor is in advance. It sounds shady, but it's the deal of a lifetime in your character's path to get back home, and refusing it may cause strife for your character within their current guild. What do they think of this offer? What do they ultimately decide to do?

Sadly, A.B.A is very easily manipulated in these sorts of situations. In an earlier game, she had zero issues kidnapping another character for someone just because they promised they could help her with her Paracelsus-related goals. This is what I mean when I say she's willing to rationalize her behavior when it comes to questionable activities, all her virtues seem to get push aside once her husband is involved. This is no different, getting back home means getting back to Paracelsus, and she'd like to do that as soon as possible. She'd accept without thinking about it.

That said, in her current canon point, she seemed awfully nervous around that person she kidnapped when they bumped into each other again. (And it even appeared like she was forgiven!!) It's completely possible that A.B.A may have realized what she did was wrong and although she'd accept the request without thinking, that doesn't mean she won't think about it later. Fool me once, shame on you, etc etc. Depending on HOW shady the offer turns out to be when the time comes, she may back out last second. Whoops. I'd, of course, be willing to play with the repercussions, regardless of how much A.B.A would throw a fit about them.

Due to shortages on supplies, the city is facing issues deciding where to cut corners during this rough time. Somehow, the responsibility has fallen on your character's shoulders, and they have to make a decision. If they send out an extra team of Pokemon, they will be able to gather more food, and through that, save the lives of dozens of starving Pokemon that were in dire need of nutrition. However, the only Pokemon available to scout for food are those working at the pokeclinic, and sending them out would mean certain death for at least two ill patients. What does your character decide to do? How do they feel about this choice, and how would they deal with the pushback that comes from either side?

She'd be so happy that they came to her for advise, how could you do this to her? At first, A.B.A will see the logic in sending the medics out into the field. She prides herself in being a logical person, someone who is superior to humans because she doesn't base her actions on emotions.....but that couldn't be further from the truth. A.B.A is an incredibly emotional person, so much so that her jealousy became a new mechanic for her Strive inclusion. The moment she sees those sick Pokémon is the moment she shoots the idea down and everyone will just have to rough it. A.B.A may even question why she can't just go out and gather food herself, seeing as she's so strong and oh so capable. Her decision would be amplified if the ill Pokémon in question are her friends, or even just a species of Pokémon she's particularly fond of.

....if one of them was a character she hated, however, the medic working on them can go out and have fun gathering food. She can be pretty petty that way. It'd be a very obvious pettiness, though, so I don't know how serious they'd take her on that one.

In the end, it will be the last time A.B.A will ever look forward to being in charge of a large decision like that. Anyone who has any issue with her choices will be met with her usual temper until they go away, just like how she deals with most of her problems.

POKEMON: Shiny Silvally! As a lab-grown person, it only makes sense to make her a lab-grown Pokémon. Being a homunculus is very important to A.B.A, she's proud of it, so I want her Pokémon to reflect that. Since A.B.A's other special interest is the color blue, specifically an ocean blue, I'd like the memory she comes in with be the water-type. I think she'd really enjoy being aquatic and surrounding herself in her favorite color, and she'd be much more eager to take on underwater missions. Honestly, I don't see her wanting to change types all that often. If she does obtain more memories, I'll be sure to play with that idea that they'll mess with her head, further emphasizing that the water one is good. Water is safe.

The shininess is just because it matches her color scheme more.

GUILD OPT-OUT: Opting out of Cheri Berries.

I don't have any particular preference for the other two guilds, I think she could easily thrive in both! However, they'd totally take her down two completely different paths:

Oran A.B.A would focus more on overcoming her fears and learning to hone her fighting abilities so that they're actually useful to society. With Mightyena also being a reckless fighter, A.B.A wouldn't feel the need to actually change who she is in order to make this happen. I'm actually surprised how much they have in common! She already got a taste of saving people on the TDM and liked the strange feeling of satisfaction it brought her, so it'd be fun to see her explore that. The Oran Berries are also the "blue one" and stationed next to the sea, so she'd just love that regardless.

A Lum A.B.A would focus more on her love for reading and learning, taking advantage of the library whenever possible. With a smaller focus on fighting, she wouldn't feel pulled out of her comfort zone nearly as much, and would happily embrace jobs that require recording information and notetaking. It was already something she was doing before, but now people want her to do it?! She already considers herself a knowledgeable and logical person, so having it acknowledged by being invited to a guild that values those traits would really feed her ego. ...That, and easier access to fashion is a huge plus for her.

CHARACTER
NAME: Shoka Sakurane
CANON: The World Ends with You
CANON POINT: after meeting Joshua
BACKGROUND: Character Wiki
SUITABILITY:

At the point in canon I'll be taking Shoka from, she is about to be erased as punishment for choosing to side with the protagonists and fully ready to accept that she'll disappear for good. Enter Composer-and-basically-god Joshua, who is about to offer her another option... only for Shoka to get dropped into Bottlecap Bay instead.

Apathy has characterized much of both Shoka's life and afterlife, and she's spent much of her time being just going along with whatever happened. It's only after she gains an attachment to Shibuya and the protagonists that she's finally compelled to make decisions and take action for what she really believes in, even when it pits her against others she also cares about (the Shinjuku Reapers who took her in after her death, in this case). Because of this—and because she was fully ready to be erased—the themes of Bottlecap Bay will challenge her in ways that I think will be fun to explore. Shoka is still in the process of figuring herself out and having the will to fight for anything is still pretty new to her after so long spent uncaring about life in general. I would like her to find more things worth fighting for. As she's faced with more situations that test her moral code and force her to define herself more fully, she'll also be forced to look inward and reach out to others more than she thinks she's comfortable with, and that's as much enrichment for me as it is for her as a character.

Though it won't be her first time being forced to work in a team, the guilds of PMD function very differently from the teams of TWEWY's Reaper's Game, and the quest and reputation systems encourage active participation in the community of Pokémon. Shoka sees little value in her own life and has spent much of it just coasting by, so having another chance to forge friendships, find herself a support system, and work with others to do some good for the world (even if it isn't really her own) despite the circumstances might be exactly what she needs.

Assuming the injured Pokémon is a stranger to her, Shoka would be reluctant to help, especially if she's on this quest with teammates she does know and is close to. She doesn't feel great about just leaving it there, but why should she risk the mission and her teammates' safety for a total stranger? Sucks to be that guy, but we've got things to do!

However, as a Reaper, she had no interest in earning points or climbing high in the Reaper hierarchy, and she is likely to feel similarly about guild rankings to a certain extent (read: she probably won't be gunning for the top spot); if she's not there with teammates and it's just a lower-stakes mission and her own safety on the line, she may try to lend a hand if she's able to think of more practical options (such as leaving supplies or asking a more medically-inclined Pokémon to check out the location with her later; she's no doctor and has the sense to know that trying too hard to help out has a fairly high chance of only making things worse).

She could also be convinced to lend a hand if her trusted teammates feel they should help. Though she won't admit it, she can be peer pressured by those she trusts into making kinder choices (and has been on at least a few occasions in the past). Despite her rude and sometimes cold outward demeanor, she's not without empathy, and sometimes all it takes is a little encouragement from those she trusts to spur her into action.

Ugh, fine, she might say. But let's just toss the guy some supplies and get the hell outta here before we're the ones who need a doctor, all right?

Your character's worst enemy has recently appeared in game, and has joined the guild your character is part of. They both want to tackle the same quest, and your character's enemy suggests that they work together as a team to accomplish this goal. How does your character respond to this?

With a hearty, "Hell no!" ... At least, in most cases.

If it's an extremely important quest and she sees no other options (if no one else is able to work with her and she absolutely needs someone else there), Shoka might be convinced to work with them. Might. Hell, she's done crappy things herself, too, right? Maybe she should give them a chance...

... But she'd really rather give them that chance some other way that doesn't leave quite so much up to chance. If there's no trust between teammates, there's too many ways the quest can go south. She'd much rather just go it alone and not have to worry about finding a knife in her back.

Shoka would sense the shadiness of the offer and be immediately skeptical, tempting though it is. Some easy reputation points sounds pretty sweet and extra supplies would take some stress off of her and her teammates for a while—but it's still just extra supplies, not things she absolutely needs, and she won't agree to doing a favor before she knows what it even is, even if it's being asked of her by her own guild leader. In another time, she had complete allegiance to another group (the Shinjuku Reapers) and did things for their benefit that she now regrets; she doesn't want to make the same mistake again.

This would be especially true if she has friends in the other guilds at this point who might be endangered by the deal. She can get the supplies and reputation points she needs her own way, and defending the people and places she cares about is more important to her than resolving her own personal issues (or even keeping herself alive, really).

Ultimately, she would demand to know what the favor is and turn the offer down if her guild leader refuses to answer. If her guildmates don't understand her decision, she'll just have to deal with them being pissed off with her. That's fine; she's used to that.

Shoka's choice would depend on her level of attachment with the ailing patients. If she knows and cares about even just one of them, this would lead her to be paralyzed with indecision and in the end insist everyone wait it out and hope the teams that have already been sent out are able to return with food in time.

If it's at all a possibility in this scenario, she would also volunteer to scout for food herself. Risky move or not, she would think this to be the most sensible option and preferable to sitting around doing nothing. Assuming this isn't a possibility, and she doesn't know any of the patients, she would then choose to send out an extra team in the hopes of minimizing the amount of loss. She might uncharitably justify this by telling herself that the patients were already on their way out anyway, and starving to death is probably an even slower and rougher way to go.

She would not feel good about making either of these choices but would outwardly act confident in her decision. Any pushback would be coldly shut down or ignored, even if inwardly she understands and feels deeply guilty. This would be the time to compartmentalize, try not think about things too much, and fall back on her old, apathetic ways to deal with it. It definitely wouldn't be the first time she's gotten people killed, after all.

POKEMON: Shoka and Mimikyu are both lonely ghosts with "scary vibes" who wear outfits based on their respective series' mascots (for Mimikyu, its disguise rag is based on the iconic and beloved Pikachu; for Shoka, her hoodie is based on popular Gatto Nero brand mascot Mr. Mew). Untrusting toward most others, Shoka tends to keep her softer emotions masked and her true intentions concealed, much in the same way Mimikyu literally hides its true self under its disguise—and she even has a habit of physically hiding her face under her hood when embarrassed or upset. The hoodie is extremely important to her (it was the first purchase she made after arriving in Shibuya, and she marks that purchase as the moment she "found her niche" and started to forge an identity for herself), and she'll find that same sentimentality and protectiveness mirrored—and ramped up to eleven—with her new Pikachu rag.

I'd like to explore how she deals with Mimikyu's instinctual fear of being seen and how it conflicts with the confident façade she likes to put on, yet at the same time parallels her own reticence and self-disregard. Despite her attitude problem, inwardly she yearns to be understood and accepted, warts and all, and it's difficult for her to admit that even to herself. I'd also like her to eventually start accessorizing and altering her disguise rag into something that feels more her and maybe someday find someone who won't immediately expire at the sight of her true form.

(I'll also be using Mimikyu's shiny coloration for her, as her preferred fashions tend toward a more monochrome palette and the gray tone matches that of the dress she first died in.)

This is delightful, thank you so much!! Shoka is thoroughly amused by Mightyena and Ribombee's scuffle and, when she visits Mightyena later, she'll say that she decided to throw her a bone just for giving her some much-needed entertainment. In reality, she was surprised and genuinely touched that they were fighting over her of all people, and Mightyena's pitch reminded her—just a little bit—of her loser friends back home.

This is the journal I'll be using!

Also perfectly fine with my app being unscreened, I'm so glad you liked it!! 🥺
