QUESTBOARD

⋆✩ quests ✩⋆

One of the core responsibilities of guild members within Bottlecap Bay is to complete quests from the Questboard. Located in the center of the city, the questboard is a physical board where Pokemon can submit requests for help, resources, exploration, and all sorts of things. Each quest rewards characters with points to not only increase their member ranking, but also raise the guild ranking, thereby having a direct effect on the direction of the game!

QUEST TYPES

LIGHT QUESTS
These quests are simpler, RNG-style quests that are far more straightforward and don't require a summary or a thread! Light quests are available every month, but during TDM months, they are the only type of quest available, meaning that nothing plot heavy or significant will be placed into the quests. They also only reward 50 points to characters.

HEAVY QUESTS
Heavy quests are more intensive, thread-required quests that often hold bits of plot or more intrigue, and are only available every other month. They are also often more dangerous than light quests, and unlike light quests, are not guaranteed to be completed when submitting for them! Sometimes you can fail these heavy quests, and in that case, no points are rewarded. But depending on the results, these quests can reward anywhere from 100-300 points each!

ALL QUESTS
So what do all quests have in common? Difficulty levels, determined by the filled in stars on a scale of 1-3, with three filled stars being the most difficult. Difficulty can mean anything from physical danger to intensive puzzles, depending on the quest! All quests must also be submitted by the deadline date on the quest itself. Quests of both types can have different amounts of teams allowed to claim it, and the number of teams allowed will be listed per quest. Lastly, players can feel free to roleplay any of the NPCs that are not listed on the Locations page under the NPC section! If it's not game breaking or contradicting of anything in the information available to players, then we generally play by the "do what's most fun!" rules.

Attention! Members of all guilds:

Last month, multiple Pokemon reported being attacked by a massive fish Pokemon out in the ocean. With help from several newcomers, we were able to deduce that this creature must be a highly aggressive Dondozo. I am calling on anyone willing and able to try and capture this Dondozo, or incapacitate it so that we can prevent it from harming anyone else. We expect the following risks:
⟡ Dondozo is a Water Pokemon, who is likely working alongside the Dragon/Water Pokemon Tatsugiri. It is safe to assume they have access to Normal, Water and Dark Type moves.
⟡ These Pokemon hunt bird Pokemon, particularly those native to the Paldean region. Bird Pokemon should be cautious approaching their territory, since they will be a prime target.
⟡ While Dondozo is not intelligent, Tatsugiri are known to be cunning tacticians. They will likely be taking full advantage of Type advantages, status effects and underhanded tactics.
⟡ The same disorienting fog that we've observed in the Middle Forest has also been spotted out in the ocean. It may be difficult to navigate without getting lost or separated from your teammates.

Seeing as this quest is particularly dangerous, senior rescue teams will be stationed nearby to help any teams who are struggling. They cannot help you in combat, but they can make sure you live to fight another day. We will also be awarding some points for helping, even if you aren't successful.

POINTS REWARDED: 300 points (200 points for failure)
EXTRA REWARDS?: Potential for plot information (if successful), risk of consequence (nothing to ever ruin your time in game)
NOTES: Please use the summary section to fill out how your characters approach this quest. A quick summary is fine! We just want a feel of the direction and group dynamic. We use a super-secret rubric to decide success/failure based on the summary, so be sure to include anything you feel is relevant - equipment, strategies, and any steps characters take to balance out their weaknesses will all be taken into account.

BOUNTY: MAD MOONLIGHTER
QUEST TYPE: HEAVY
QUEST GIVER: Ribombee
CLAIM LIMIT: None
DIFFICULTY: ★★★
THREAD REQUIRED?: Yes
DEADLINE: Must be submitted by JUNE 30TH 11:59 EST.

Attention! Members of all guilds:

Over the course of the last few months, reports on the terrain of the Middle Forest have included evidence of adjusting terrain in addition to known symptoms of the fog. Recent expeditions made by experienced teams have also included sightings of a great shadow in the forest, particularly near bones. It is unclear what this creature is, or how connected it is to the fog, but defending the Bay must be given priority. We are calling on anyone willing and able to find and neutralize them before it is too late. Thus far we expect the following risks:

⟡ Evidence found on the bones indicates a creature of great physical power and size.
⟡ Further investigations of these same bones reveal sustained blows indicative of significant force by special attack.
⟡ Descriptions of the shadow are 'approximately 9 feet tall', alternating between bipedalism and quadrupedalism.
⟡ Changes to the ground terrain point to something capable of altering the ground itself.
⟡ Although the fog of the Middle Forest is incredibly disorienting, this creature appears to carry natural immunity to its effects.

Due to the nature of this quest, senior rescue teams will travel nearby to help any teams struggling. While they cannot help you in combat, they will ensure a swift escape in order to live and fight another day. We will also be awarding some points for helping, even if you are unsuccessful.

BOUNTY: MYSTERY GHOSTS
QUEST TYPE: HEAVY
QUEST GIVER: Ribombee
CLAIM LIMIT: None
DIFFICULTY: ★★★
THREAD REQUIRED?: Yes
DEADLINE: Must be submitted by JUNE 30TH 11:59 EST.

Attention! Members of all guilds:

Over the course of the last few months, reports on the terrain of the Southern Forest have frequently referred to hauntings performed by Ghost Type Pokemon in addition to the incredibly strange properties of the terrain and fog. In particular, these Pokemon have been impersonating fellow Pokemon, using their abilities to further disorient and toy with their victims. Given the evidence of such Pokemon coming into the Bay for further mischief, it has been decided that teams of combatants will be sent into the woods to bring the fight to them. Thus far we expect the following risks:

⟡ The nature of the woods provides constant disorientation, altering perceptions of time and space. All Pokemon who are not of the Ghost type are at risk of memory inconsistencies and mood swings.
⟡ Potential earthquakes and pitfalls, due to tunnel systems and native Pokemon found beneath the earth in this area.
⟡ Certain Impersonated Pokemon have shown resistances to Psychic moves, and unexpected defenses to Ghost moves.
⟡ These same Impersonators, when defeated, scatter into violet and green light.
⟡ Potentially unidentifiable entities; reports indicate an ominous presence which feeds on the energy and emotions of those near it.

Due to the nature of this quest, senior rescue teams will travel nearby to help any teams struggling. While they cannot help you in combat, they will ensure a swift escape in order to live and fight another day. We will also be awarding some points for helping, even if you are unsuccessful.

⟡ quest complete ⟡

This deep into the forest, the strange, poisonous mushrooms have spread like wildfire. Their spores color the air a faint orange, and the effects of the spores seems to vary from Pokemon to Pokemon. Some need only a small whiff to become fully enraged, while others need continual exposure to be bothered. Be careful!

In the end, your team successfully gathers plenty of mushrooms, creating enough spore samples for Dr. Denne to make 10 more doses of medication! In addition to this, each team member is rewarded 50 points upon completion! Great work out there!

PLAYERS: Terry, Mega
CHARACTERS: Siffrin, Guilmon
QUEST: A Shell-fish Request
SUMMARY: Views for Numel! Siffrin and Guilmon will be pausing at various points along the coast, along the top of the cliffs, and then trying to get a view from partway down... where they will also end up tumbling into the ocean. Exciting! They'll escape relatively unscathed, despite having to watch out for Guilmon's tail, and Numel will get to see what it looks like underneath the ocean too.

PLAYERS: Terry, Kururu
CHARACTERS: Siffrin, Courier Six
QUEST: Mush to be Done
SUMMARY: Just some nice calm mushroom and root gathering! In theory. A Dragonite should be able to carry a good amount back, right?

PLAYERS: Terry, Elaine
CHARACTERS: Siffrin, Firoza
QUEST: Less is Spore
SUMMARY: This is the quest that is going to go Awry. It might or might not be due to the spores, or just a freak accident, but at some point Siffrin is getting poisoned on Firoza's spikes. The two should manage to bring back some mushrooms anyway...? But not as many as they'd like, since they'll either have to abort early or Siffrin will be in increasingly worse shape and not able to do as much.

PLAYERS: Kibi, Pyra, Rusty
CHARACTERS: Shoka Sakurane, Narciso Anasui, Conrad Achenleck
QUEST: Exploration: Northern Forest
SUMMARY: Being a Pokémon that naturally lives in low light conditions (and also the one who decided on this quest), Shoka will be leading the charge—at least initially. Sharing a guild with Conrad and having completed a quest with him before, she knows him well enough and trusts him to at least try to keep a level head and make sure no one gets hurt. She is less familiar with Anasui and doesn't fully trust him, but she is inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt due to his friendship with Emporio and his clear insistence on getting the job that's been assigned to him done right. They are an unlikely team-up that has never worked together before, but they'll all be doing their best to stick together and watch each other's backs (even if Shoka is acting a bit more recklessly than she should, Conrad might lose his cool, and Anasui is especially quick to resort to violence).

Though they'll all start out on foot, Anasui will quickly get tired of Shoka and Conrad's slower movement speed and will put them both on his back so they can all move as a single unit. If they do somehow get separated anyway, he'll make his eyes glow so Shoka and Conrad have a way of finding him again.

Following the advice of previous explorers, the whole group will go in equipped with masks in the hopes of minimizing the effects of any spores, but the masks may prove ineffective for Conrad and Shoka specifically due to Conrad's rounded body shape and Shoka's... everything. (Do Mimikyu even have lungs? Do they even have noses or mouths? We just don't know...)

Should any of the other aggressive plants in the forest lash out at them or try to trip Anasui up, no one on this team is afraid to fight back with matching violence. Shoka and Conrad might be a little too eager to fight the plants, actually...

PLAYERS: Mauyn, Lu
CHARACTERS: Emmet, Ingo
QUEST: EXPLORATION: MIDDLE FOREST
SUMMARY:
  • Given their previous experience in the forest (albeit with the southern end instead of the middle), they'll be opting to stick relatively close to each other on account of the persistent fog and general potential disorienting qualities of the forest. No scouting ahead too far, etc etc, reasonable precautions against getting accidentally separated or ambushed while apart, that sort of deal, it's just the two of them after all.
  • The low light conditions shouldn't be of too much concern overall, between fire type privileges and both of them having some way or other of providing their own light as necessary either via controlled fire moves like Will-o-Wisp or just the Typhlosion flame collar. Or just them overall being used to and fine with low light conditions, honestly, given the caves and mines of the Spire, the Coronet Highlands' Wayward Cave, and well, subway tunnels. Or the fact that Hisuian Zoroark is a cave dwelling species.
  • They've done a couple of missions both with and without each other at this point, plus they've been cohabiting in the extended long-term mass sleepover that is Oran Berry communal housing; even disregarding their relation to each other suffice to say they're fairly comfortable working with one another. Ingo, as previous, will overall take the lead here since he's got a fair bit more experience with wilderness exploration than Emmet at this point.
  • Speaking of previous missions, since navigating by trail markers and overall topography / remembering routes proved to be more or less useless in the south end of the forest due to how things kept getting shifted around, we're just going to employ the good ol' tried and true overall good sense of direction. Also: compasses as the objective third party to help orient oneself. That probably helps when you don't have a convenient Pokémon partner whose nose always points north accompanying you. They did manage to get back out of the southern end of the forest well enough before despite its peculiarities, but having extra insurance can't hurt.
  • They'll probably be trying to explore as much and as exhaustively as they can, 'as much information as possible' as per the taskboard and all, though they won't be trying to push all the way through the forest or anything. It's just the two of them so it seems a little foolish to push too deep into unknown territory without a known, safe method of egress, even if it is partially mapped out.
  • Among their berry/food rations are Oran and Persim. Who knows if the Persim Berries will help at all with the mental effects of the fog, but it's worth a shot.
  • Neither of them really have anything specific to deal with the fog, unless 'heating up the air and hoping that helps to dry it out' counts (given that the fog acts almost like something alive, probably not). Defog is limited to a privileged few with specific features in their body plan and they're not on that elite list. So on that front, they're probably just going to have to deal with the limited visibility? It's not like they're charging forward into the mists or anything like that, so the risk of just blindly stepping out into empty air is low... but in the case that they do stumble into... or off of something unawares, at least Ingo has had experience navigating and also falling off of cliffs, though if he does it too often Emmet will probably become the first known member of a new subspecies of purely Ghost Zoroark. Emmet himself can ... just make do with hasty Shadow Sneaks to catch himself if he has to when running into any unstable footing or sudden steep decline. They handled the cave in on their last trip through the forest well enough, this shouldn't be too much different, right,
  • Hallucination wise, there isn't really much for it but to check in with each other frequently? There's no real way to avoid the fog, but Ingo at least has experience dealing with hallucinations/illusions, for whatever it's worth, and overall they generally get along fairly well so it shouldn't become overbearing, probably. Especially since it's something warned about in the mission briefing and thus planned for. "Are you seeing the giant purple Cufant too?" "No, I'm afraid not. ... What exactly is a Cufant?"

EXPLORATION: NORTHERN FOREST

[personal profile] bayhelpers 2025-04-30 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)

⟡ quest results ⟡

The morning light is swallowed quickly as the team ventures deeper into the northern section of the forest. Dense, dark foliage stretches above them, blocking out much of the sun and casting long shadows across their path. The air is thick and heavy, almost suffocating, as though the forest itself is holding its breath. The scent of decaying plant matter fills the air, and underfoot, the ground is slick and uneven.

As they move forward, the air thickens with the pungent scent of what seems like death. Ren and Firepaw stumble, their legs weakening as they try to push through the overwhelming stench. The sudden surge of dizziness overcomes them, and the world tilts. For a moment, everything goes black. Junpei and Akechi manage to stay steady, but the disorientation from the overwhelming fumes is enough to knock their teammates down for the next handful of minutes — longer if they can't get their bodies away from the mass outbreak of Gloom causing this overwhelming stench. Slow moving and so focused on their own pack movements that they pay no mind to the standing team members, these Gloom will prove a difficult mess to navigate through and beyond. Somehow, through largely Junpei's assistance (Akechi is just too tiny, isn't he?), the bodies of their collapsed teammates make it through with them.

But that's not the only struggle they face today. A much smaller group of Amoonguss and Foongus prove to be an even larger problem than the mass of Gloom left behind. Effect Spore is an ability held by these Pokemon that can cause other Pokemon to be poisoned, paralyzed, or even fall asleep. Something in the way this team moves forward through the dense forest triggers a fear reaction in this small family of fungus Pokemon, and the ability is triggered. Through it, Firepaw and Akechi are both poisoned. Ren is also hit by the Effect Spore, but is unaffected by it and manages to shake it off. Somehow, once again, Junpei manages to avoid being affected.

But there's only so much Junpei and Ren can do. They struggle to keep pushing forward while Firepaw and Akechi's strength is rapidly draining. Whether they try to or determine immediately that they should turn back, the result is the same: another team runs into them by chance. It's Shoka, Anasui, and Conrad! After their own chaotic entrance into the forest, they reveal that they've cleared an easy, alternate path back towards Bottlecap Bay for Junpei and Ren to lead their teammates back for treatment.

Unfortunately, this does result in a failure for this team, and no points are rewarded. Upon returning to the city, all four of them are rushed into treatment at the Pokeclinic. Poison is cured from the two afflicted, and Junpei and Ren are advised to rest for a few days after pushing themselves too far. Because of this, all of them are recommended to stay in the clinic a few nights just to be sure they recover fully.

Thank you for your patience! Due to such heavy delay in our responses, you do not need to link a thread this time around. Please feel free to thread out the quest or handwave the rest of it as you feel comfortable, and let us know if you have any questions!

EXPLORATION: SOUTHERN FOREST

[personal profile] bayhelpers 2025-04-30 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)

⟡ quest results ⟡

The morning light is swallowed quickly as the team ventures deeper into the southern section of the forest. Dense, dark foliage stretches above them, blocking out much of the sun and casting long shadows across their path. The air is thick and heavy with fog, unnatural in its touch, and teeming with the perpetual scent of staleness.

The nature of the forest turns all methods of navigation against the party. The group swiftly finds themselves lost and disoriented, and the denizens of the forest are faster still to take advantage. Ghost pokemon of all kinds begin to attack, forcing the team to fight back, or flee as they navigate the withered, twisted trees.

At some point in this flight, a lost Oricorio is encountered. They claim to be from Bottlecap Bay as well, and suggest teaming up and working together. Even this extra help cannot save them from the current predicament however.

Despite never running out of their supplies, days seem to pass while they wander. Markings they thought could act as guides are spotted multiple times on the path, trees impossibly identical grow at opposing sides of their path. For every member of the team excluding the Oricorio, things seem...different between their memories. One recalls seeing their partners arguing. Another recalls witnessing their team mate attack at thin air, where yet another simply saw them stare off into the distance.

It is when the entire team realizes the actions of their escorted addition are consistent in their observations, that the ground collapses. As the earth crumbles, there is time enough for all but Firoza to avoid falling- the rest are forced to go after her.

While the team continues their journey through the tunnels and caves they've fallen into, attempting to talk to the Oricorio about the inconsistencies between their actions and observations brings concerning matters to light. The Pokemon has no idea what guilds are- and somehow, it feels as if no one mentioned it until now.

In this moment, Firoza will feel near them an ominous presence, that can't be located no matter how hard they try. Surrounded by writings and carvings in caves that were clearly once structures and dwellings, the Oricorio vanishes in the blink of an eye...

But curiously, its Feather remains.

The ominous presence increases the longer the team puzzles over this haunting mystery, growing heavier, and heavier until the world itself feels like static. If they fail to leave quickly, the entire team will eventually pass out entirely- requiring rescue, and becoming drained of all energy for multiple days.

Should they return however, their quest will be considered successful! In return for their harrowing report and experience, Perrin, Firoza, and Guilmon all receive 300 points.

Thank you for your patience! Due to such heavy delay in our responses, you do not need to link a thread this time around. Please feel free to thread out the quest or handwave the rest of it as you feel comfortable, and let us know if you have any questions!

EXPLORATION: MIDDLE FOREST

⟡ quest results ⟡

The morning light is swallowed quickly as the team ventures deeper into the middle section of the forest. Dense, dark foliage stretches above them, blocking out much of the sun and casting long shadows across their path. The air is thick and heavy with mist, as if the forest itself desired to hide beneath its shroud. The team is surrounded by the scent of moist soil and decaying wood, a pleasant, but no less threatening aroma.

Soon into their journey, Emporio and Siffrin find themselves sinking into the earth- but only they perceive this, for it is in fact a hallucination! As both Pokemon become overwhelmed by the sensations of earth filling their lungs, by their limbs growing trapped and immobile, Akari and Anasui are forced to break them free. Even after the fact however, both victims cannot shake how real it felt. They remain short of breath, coughing through the feeling of lingering dirt as the scent traps itself in their nostrils.

For a time after this, the hallucinations seem to increase- affecting the entire team. Rather than the total sensation of quicksand however, what the team experiences is visions of the future. Fractures and slips through reality present themselves as they walk, warning of a steep fall that could have easily resulted in heavy injury- or even death!

Helpful as these fractures are, the longer they travel, the more unpredictable these visions become. Eventually, enough slips of reality and alternate time make it clear that the group must return home, a task that takes seemingly no time at all after the decision is made.

Despite this feeling, much more time than expected has passed once they return to Bottlecap Bay. Even so, their report and observations result in success for this mission! Emporio, Akari, Siffrin, and Anasui each receive 300 points for their hard work.

Thank you for your patience! Due to such heavy delay in our responses, you do not need to link a thread this time around. Please feel free to thread out the quest or handwave the rest of it as you feel comfortable, and let us know if you have any questions!

As they move forward, the air is suddenly overcome with the scent of fresh soil. Enormous vines tear through the soil, catching Shoka, Anasui, and Conrad off guard. The vines have no discernable source, and grab at the team blindly, forcing them to battle their way onward.

Between their unique forms and their coordination however, all three will succeed. In fact, a path is cleared by their success, making it easier to return to Bottlecap Bay. This is fortunate, as soon after they continue onward, the team will encounter something else- Firepaw and Akechi, who have been poisoned and are being assisted by Ren and Junpei.

The group continues forward after directing Team 1 back to safety. With the vines clear, the forest seems overwhelming, but inviting all the same. It is an alien feeling, one whose source becomes clear in time- as they find the Forest's Heart.

Before them stands an entity of twisted bark and vines, rooted into the ground and sprawling into the sky above to capture the light. Pumping some sort of energy into the ground, the air, and the surrounding areas, it beats steadily with life. All three find their hearts beat in unison, and the longer they behold it, the dizzier they will feel.

Eventually, no matter how long they find themselves studying the Forest's Heart, the team will return safely home to Bottlecap Bay.

For their successful rescue and report on their findings, this team is granted success on their quest! Shoka, Anasui, and Conrad each receive 300 points.

EXPLORATION: MIDDLE FOREST

[personal profile] bayhelpers 2025-04-30 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)

⟡ quest results ⟡

The morning light is swallowed quickly as the team ventures deeper into the middle section of the forest. Dense, dark foliage stretches above them, blocking out much of the sun and casting long shadows across their path. The air is thick and heavy with mist, as if the forest itself desired to hide beneath its shroud. The twins are surrounded by the scent of moist soil and decaying wood, a pleasant, but no less threatening aroma.

The deceptive nature of the mist makes itself known early into the journey, by hiding a steep, but short cliff from their view. Despite all their combined experience and careful work, Ingo falls painfully over its edge, resulting in a minor injury in the process. It is as if the earth itself created the cliff as they walked, so sudden is its appearance — fortunately, as odd as the unexpected cliff is, no others make themselves known.

While they may ordinarily have seen reason to turn back for this injury, Ingo becomes affected by the fog before such a choice can be made. Its strange mist seems to sink into the Typhlosion's very bones, pulling at everything that makes him...'him'. He becomes aware of the fur on his body, the shape of his muzzle and limbs. All these inhuman parts, which like the mist seem to cease existing altogether.

The sensation of fear and danger becomes ethereal, and as Ingo is drawn farther from himself into the mist other presences call to him- other entities within the mist, unseen, without form, all calling for help they cannot obtain. Only Emmet's presence will keep him from truly losing himself, as the twins make their way to a place devoid of fog.

As soon as the twins enter this eye of the storm, this haven within the woods, the effects of the fog vanish completely. Ingo is freed from what the mist enforced on him- though the cries from within it were real, and their pleas cannot be forgotten. Here in the clearing, Emmet will experience his own connection to the woods now- a familiarity, as if he has been there before. It is a feeling Ingo will experience only if Emmet voices this aloud. Otherwise, it is only for Emmet to feel.

With Ingo's injury and the threat of the fog connecting to them once again, the twins must make their way back to Bottlecap Bay quickly. Their time in the clearing earns them the moment of clarity needed to make this choice, and it doesn't take long to return home. Both find themselves drained and exhausted by the time they do, in addition to Ingo's existing injury.

Thanks to their report and observations however, their quest is successful! Both Emmet and Ingo are rewarded 300 points!

Denne to make 20 more doses of medication! In addition to this, each team member is rewarded 50 points upon completion! Great work out there!

⟡ quest complete ⟡

The forest floor of the Canopy is filled with plantlife that's far more safe than the plants of the deeper forest. Mushrooms can be found gathered in groups along the roots of trees, and certain roots and plants have curved up in a way that makes them easy to harvest. The team works well to gather relevant roots and mushrooms into their provided gathering bags, returning with a plentiful foraging harvest. Upon turning these in, each member is rewarded with 50 points! Thanks for the help!
