One of the core responsibilities of guild members within Bottlecap Bay is to complete quests from the Questboard. Located in the center of the city, the questboard is a physical board where Pokemon can submit requests for help, resources, exploration, and all sorts of things. Each quest rewards characters with points to not only increase their member ranking, but also raise the guild ranking, thereby having a direct effect on the direction of the game!

QUEST TYPES

LIGHT QUESTS
These quests are simpler, RNG-style quests that are far more straightforward and don't require a summary or a thread! Light quests are available every month, but during TDM months, they are the only type of quest available, meaning that nothing plot heavy or significant will be placed into the quests. They also typically reward 50 points to characters.

HEAVY QUESTS
Heavy quests are more intensive, thread-required quests that often hold bits of plot or more intrigue, and are only available every other month. They are also often more dangerous than light quests, and unlike light quests, are not guaranteed to be completed when submitting for them! Sometimes you can fail these heavy quests, and in that case, no points are rewarded. But depending on the results, these quests can reward anywhere from 100-300 points each!

PLAYER QUESTS
These are quests submitted by other players, available as players come up with them. A player may submit a quest during any month, and may even post the same quest again on a subsequent month, when it makes sense ICly to do so. They are otherwise very similar to Light Quests; more information can be found below, but as a rule, they reward 50 points to characters.

ALL QUESTS
So what do all quests have in common? They must be submitted by the deadline date on the quest itself, and each character may claim points from a given quest only once, though they may repeat the quest with other teams as many times as they like.

Mod quests in particular will have difficulty levels, determined by the filled in stars on a scale of 1-3, with three filled stars being the most difficult. Difficulty can mean anything from physical danger to intensive puzzles, depending on the quest! Mod quests of both types may also sometimes have claim limits, with the number of teams allowed listed per quest.

Lastly, players can feel free to roleplay any of the NPCs that are not listed on the Locations page under the NPC section! If it's not game breaking or contradicting anything in the information available to players, then we generally play by the "do what's most fun!" rules.

PLAYER QUESTS

Player Quests are now open! These are quests ICly posted by your character to any of Bottlecap Bay's quest boards. They may be quests that are meant for the benefit of the city (or outlying outposts, or good relations with local Pokemon), or they may be quests for a character's personal concerns... and even joke quests are very welcome, for CR purposes!

(Just keep in mind IC reactions while devising a quest - guild leaders may choose not to reward points for "come perform a handstand for me," and there may be negative consequences for posting "assassinate my annoying guild coworker!")

Some general guidelines:

• To respond to a player quest, other players may use the same submission form as for mod quests; they do not have to provide a thread, but do have to fill out the summary.
  
• For all quests, quests may reward 50 points! Points track how helpful a character is overall, so they may be awarded for (reasonable, non-joke) personal quests as well!
  
• For quests for the benefit of Bottlecap Bay, guild leaders will generally also allow for item rewards from guild resources. These rewards should be restricted to a single item or type of item chosen by the quest-writing player, and can be one of: berries, basic stones, basic accessories (with no special effects), or small furniture items. A character may also offer handmade items that they are able to make/obtain the resources for.
  
• For personal quests, guild leaders will not allow for item rewards from guild resources... but a character may still offer handmade items that they are able to make/obtain the resources for!
  
• Characters who are ICly posting the quest obviously cannot join their own quest! However, at mod discretion, posting a quest may result in extra points in the next point tally, particularly if the quest is for the benefit of Bottlecap Bay - the guild leaders will reward someone looking out for the success of the city.

To keep things fair and also manageable for the mods, at the moment the below are the policies for player quests. These may be updated in the future if we run into any problems!

• Quests may not have limited entry slots.
  
• Quest-writing players will decide whether responses pass or fail. (They may choose to respond with a blurb with more flavor details, or just a note saying pass/fail.)
  
• Posted rewards will be fully awarded regardless of pass/fail. If a quest says the reward is 50 points and a berry, then even failing teams will get those rewards.
  
• It is fine for personal quests to have a biased pass/fail outcome for CR purposes, such as a designated team being pre-arranged to be the only one who succeeds. However, this must be made clear beforehand OOCly, and the above point must be followed.
  
• Players may decide whether their quest is worth 50 points or 0 points. We're trusting players to use their best judgement! (ICly, points are always awarded by the guild leaders, but will still be awarded for non-joke personal quests that take effort. For example: "My important item is missing, please help me search the woods" or "I want to make a feast to cheer up my friend but I don't know how to cook, please help.")
  
• If a player would like to have their character ICly post a problematic quest and receive consequences from their guild leader, please contact the mods on the mod contact beforehand! (This is for quests that would be viewed as actively harmful, rather than silly ones.)
  
• Players may not have their own characters, even their other character, submit for a quest that they posted.

A question for folks sorting out who's going where-

When it comes to limited quests of any kind, is there a limit to how many times a character may accompany a team?

For example, one player submits for one rescue, another player submits for another, and among both teams is found the same character.

My assumption was 'no', but it seemed best to check just in case.

For the repeatable rescues (Phantump in March, Zweilous in June, probably more at some later point), if a character drops by the clinic later to check in on them, are the rescues still there, and is the condition of the sleeping Pokémon basically the same as the coma'd via hiatus or drop characters or nah?

And just to confirm, there aren't multiples of those particular rescue targets in the clinic, right.

As players, we're required to submit teams with at least two people- but is it possible for players to NPC members beyond this in threads?

ie- Emporio and Firepaw sign up for a quest together, but ICly, they're also accompanied by Snom.

SUMMARY: First of all, masks! All of them are going to seek out face coverings that are meant for their face shape, except Akechi who is going to use his scarf. Firepaw has been burnt badly by getting separated during his last exploration quest, so he's going to be very careful about making sure they all stay together. Since Akechi wouldn't be as comfortable staying on the ground with them, Firepaw's plan is to jump from tree to tree so he can stay near Akechi, while Ren and Junpei stay on the ground so everyone has a buddy if something happens. (If we need extra drama, Firepaw isn't used to wearing clothing and might end up knocking off his mask so he can breathe easier.)

SUMMARY: Emmet's done one of the ocean-based rescue quests before and has been frequenting the coast anyway so he at least knows the coastline (and the fact that there are hidden caverns beneath the water line) a bit. The quest says this one should be along the coast at least so presumably there'll be less swimming involved this time? Conrad's going to make good use of his natural floatiness to ... not worry about sinking or drowning if they have to search over the water, and Laios as an electric type can help deter any water types that might otherwise impede search and rescue efforts. Otherwise, it's time for them to search, maybe there's tracks in the sand or something or signs of a scuffle if they got lost on a quest. Some of them can be very motivated if they're channeling themselves into work instead of certain other things.

SUMMARY: Dragonites are large and strong. Shinxes are... not that! But both are determined! Siffrin and Courier Six will be helping rebuild the outer walls; in the meantime, Courier Six will be trying to (and Siffrin will be encouraging him to) practice flying. So if there are any wall patches that need to be glided down to to repair, they're your duo!

SUMMARY: A.B.A isn't recovered enough this month to go on a heavy quest, but surely a little bit of investigation will be just fine...? Nice and low-key? Surely. Either way, Siffrin and A.B.A will be trying to track down Zweilous. If it's possible to get any information about where Zweilous was last seen, Siffrin in particular may be trying to track them down by scent - and may try to rope A.B.A into doing the same. Otherwise it'll be standard asking around and tracking! (For some reason, while the two are talking amongst each other, they will keep calling the Zweilous "Weedle"... don't worry about it.)

QUEST: Bounty: Mystery Ghosts
SUMMARY:
Overall strategy:
- Disorientation/mood swings: Shoka and Technus are here to be the unaffected members of the party and balance out the other two, who might be more affected! Akechi and Siffrin will be susceptible, but both are forewarned about what to expect and will be trying to keep a cool head.
- Imposters: Everyone is pretty well aware of the imposter Pokemon at this point, so there's no reason for them not to go in with pre-arranged code words! (In addition, due to the memory share rain, several of the characters know secrets about each other that haven't been spread widely! So that's something else imposters won't be able to answer.)
- Pitfalls: As long as anyone doesn't get trapped in a full-on cave in, this group has quite a few ways of dealing with the pitfalls! First and most obviously, Akechi and Technus can fly/float; Akechi can also very specifically Fly and airlift someone out of a pitfall/cavern if necessary. In addition, Siffrin has Volt Switch, which will let them swap with other people - so as long as a drop isn't ridiculously long, Siffrin can juggle people around until only those who are able to fly out are down in a pit. (It's even possible they'll be able to do it mid-drop!)
- Navigation: Siffrin's been learning to navigate by scent from Firepaw and practicing it a lot themself, so at the very least it shouldn't be hard to backtrack when necessary! In addition Akechi and Technus can both float up (to whatever the limits of fog visibility are) and call out directions based on what they see.
- Battling:
- This team is going to have an unusually large focus on movement control! Akechi is able to use Tailwind to speed everyone up, and Scary Face to slow enemies down. As of this month, Siffrin has learned Electroweb and can also slow enemies down - potentially placing that down on the ground to hit enemies that are hard to target directly. There's also the aforementioned Volt Switch, which will let Siffrin juggle allies around to more advantageous positions! (Particularly in combination with their Quick Attack to get to enemies quickly!) And on top of that Technus has Electroweb too! More webs for everyone!
- Shoka will be using Double Team to try to out-imposter the imposters; while her copies aren't able to talk or attack, just look like her, they are excellent decoys! She'll also be leaving unattended decoys around looking injured to see if anything attacks them... which will be useful for catching more imposters! (And, of course, she has the Mimikyu Disguise ability to absorb at least one nasty hit for either herself or a team member.)
- Shoka and Akechi in particular have been practicing battling a lot and will be quick to pick up on which moves do and don't work... and Shoka especially has quite a few Fairy-type moves she's been working on! Which... should hopefully be helpful... 👀 While Akechi has a nice combination in Hone Claws + Power Trip, is able to use Leer to weaken enemy defenses, can potentially flinch enemies, and has Roost for healing himself. Siffrin and Technus, meanwhile, both have moves with a chance of paralyzing enemies.
- Akechi will be bringing along a stash of berries to assist in recovery! Siffrin will contribute the ones they've gotten from previous quests as well.

Potential complications and/or advantages:
- Siffrin is particularly prone to memory inconsistencies/hallucinations, but has a lot of practice continuing along despite them and handling it. After their Middle Forest exploration, they've also experienced some pretty bad forest/fog hallucinations that specifically pushed a lot of their buttons... so they're extra prepared this time. It could go either way with them.
- Shoka and Akechi very recently made up from a big ol' teenager fight, so while they're getting along again now, there may still be some tension.
- The team is going to have to be careful not to get tricked by Shoka's own decoys, though the lack of talking/action should help with that!
- Potentially, after seeing Siffrin with Volt Switch, Akechi will figure out how to use the very similar U-turn... which means even more movement control!
- As it turns out, Shinx can also learn Play Rough. So potentially, if Fairy-type moves are indeed helpful, Shoka can give Siffrin a very quick crash course!
- If Volt Switch/U-turn only work on allies, then there's another way for the team to detect imposters. If Volt Switch/U-turn work on anyone you can see, it opens up some very nasty options as far as swapping enemies into places they don't want to be!
- Siffrin is... going to be unusually vicious with any imposter of themself. This might be an advantage or disadvantage depending on the circumstances.
- Technus is Very Specialized, aka he only has Electric type moves right now. Here's hoping there's no Ground types to deal with...
- Siffrin and Technus both participated in team-building exercises in the May TDM, and would have the "stronger while defending team members" accessory reward!

SUMMARY: Middle Forest, electric boogaloo! Surely now that Ursaluna's been handled the whole ground disappearing from beneath your feet thing will be ... a little less ... of an issue. Before heading out they might probably try to ask about what kind of quest Glaceon took to see if that helps any, but otherwise they'll probably just have to try to track via scent, disturbed trail, etc etc if any of that is present (it probably will not be, lbr). Standard 'all three of them can provide their own light' applies, and even if the mist in the south is thinner than in the middle forest they all probably have a decent amount of experience dealing with it by now between the other quests and bounties and things they've gotten into. Or at least an awareness of any potential effects to look out for and keep an eye on. Since they've all been to the middle before on separate explorations, and this is a rescue, they'll all know they probably should try to move quickly and not to underestimate the forest?

Emmet and Ingo are also the ones who found the Eye of the Storm, originally, so that might help if any of them should need a breather from the fog effects. Siffrin's forcing themselves to deal with the time fractures again, and Ingo and Emmet's last deeper trip into the middle went Great™, surely they'll all be fine.

QUEST: Exploration: Yellow
SUMMARY: Two cats head off on an exploration quest to a new uncharted area!

Cons: huh, there sure is a strange tension in the air... wonder what that could be... don't worry about it! Neither of them are thinking about it so it's fine!! (Also, if anyone calls out their name, both are going to react and ISAT!frin's "Stardust" name is going to get real awkward real fast.)

Pros: both are used to exploration and scouting, though ISAT!frin might be a bit more rusty on the "outdoor" part. On the assumption that static = Electric types... neither of them are weak to Electric, and SA!frin is resistant to both the moves and paralysis! (And is large enough to carry ISAT!frin, if it really becomes necessary.) In addition, despite ostensibly being strangers, both are startlingly good at working together, both in combat and just generally in where they'd expect the other one to be/what they'd expect the other to do! It's eerily like they're practically the same person! How strange, definitely couldn't mean anything.

Misc: If it seems like it's going to rain right before they head out SA!frin will provide ISAT!frin their spare hat from a previous quest. (Please say it's going to rain)

SUMMARY: While their tensions are definitely toned down since they went on the Dondozo quest together, Flowey and Siffrin still aren't... the best of friends. There WILL be catty comments. But at least there's no longer a risk of them trying to kill each other. Maybe this will even help them start getting along...? (We can hope...)

Otherwise: Siffrin is getting saddled with more of the actual physical carrying of objects during this quest. Flowey is just a little seed, tiny and helpless, you can't expect him to carry heavy rocks or logs! (He can, however, probably harness stuff up to Siffrin with his vines?)

CHARACTERS: Archnemon, Siffrin (Start Again)
QUEST: Home On Arrange
SUMMARY: In part this is going to be Siffrin keeping an eye on Archnemon (what with Ribombee asking Cheris to check on her)! Since both of them are relatively small Pokemon and Archnemon recently had her awful second transformation, they're likely not doing any of the large scale construction. Rather, they'd be helping with carrying messages or tools around, handing tools out, and/or small scale construction (furniture, anything that needs someone small to squirm into a tight space, and so on).

Which means, in part this is also going to be Archnemon keeping an eye on Siffrin and their bad memory, if they're delivering a lot of messages at once... and it's really just unfortunate that her new Hatenna emotion-sensing powers are giving her headaches at the same time.

SUMMARY: These two are DEFINITELY ending up on furniture construction duty. They are building the IKEA beds and cafeteria tables and whatever it is the new Outpost needs. They are good-naturedly bickering about it. They possibly have enough fun that they blow through a good chunk, and only leave a handful of cursed constructions behind them. Fwends...

time to make bigby have another crisis

CHARACTERS: Bigby, Firoza, Ingo, Emmet
QUEST: Bea-very Chilled
SUMMARY: Bigby regrets his life choices: the quest. Local hamster pizza rat freezes his ass off in the cold while staring at Firoza "thirty winters" Istus, Ingo, and Emmet wondering why they're handling it so much better than he is (spoilers: it's because Firoza is one, hardened to the cold, two, bundled up, and the Hisuian variant brothers are. well. subarctic species). Congratulations on having to huddle up to the local space heater for warmth, buddy.

Anyway, three out of the four did head south for the big explorations the month previous, and Bigby is no slouch too when he's not a frozen rat-sicle, so between the four of them probably they'll be able to handle the tracking/search and rescue fine? They even have a fire-type to help with counteracting any potential hypothermia, provided they do it slowly and carefully.
