QUESTBOARD

⋆✩ quests ✩⋆

One of the core responsibilities of guild members within Bottlecap Bay is to complete quests from the Questboard. Located in the center of the city, the questboard is a physical board where Pokemon can submit requests for help, resources, exploration, and all sorts of things. Each quest rewards characters with points to not only increase their member ranking, but also raise the guild ranking, thereby having a direct effect on the direction of the game!

QUEST TYPES

LIGHT QUESTS
These quests are simpler, RNG-style quests that are far more straightforward and don't require a summary or a thread! Light quests are available every month, but during TDM months, they are the only type of quest available, meaning that nothing plot heavy or significant will be placed into the quests. They also only reward 50 points to characters.

HEAVY QUESTS
Heavy quests are more intensive, thread-required quests that often hold bits of plot or more intrigue, and are only available every other month. They are also often more dangerous than light quests, and unlike light quests, are not guaranteed to be completed when submitting for them! Sometimes you can fail these heavy quests, and in that case, no points are rewarded. But depending on the results, these quests can reward anywhere from 100-300 points each!

ALL QUESTS
So what do all quests have in common? Difficulty levels, determined by the filled in stars on a scale of 1-3, with three filled stars being the most difficult. Difficulty can mean anything from physical danger to intensive puzzles, depending on the quest! All quests must also be submitted by the deadline date on the quest itself. Quests of both types can have different amounts of teams allowed to claim it, and the number of teams allowed will be listed per quest. Lastly, players can feel free to roleplay any of the NPCs that are not listed on the Locations page under the NPC section! If it's not game breaking or contradicting of anything in the information available to players, then we generally play by the "do what's most fun!" rules.

Now that the surrounding areas have been made suitably safe for passage, it’s vital that we do our part to record the unique features of each region in full detail. I will be sending various specialized Pokemon Scholars out from the Bay- and each will require a team of bodyguards to best do their work unimpeded.

Do this, and you will be rewarded quite appropriately for your efforts.

QUEST SIGN-UP

To claim and sign up for a quest, simply fill out the form below and reply to the current month's thread. All quests require at least 2 characters to complete, with no maximum unless specified. Keep in mind that for quests requiring threading, 3 is probably a good number. Multiple quests can be signed up for in one comment.

PLAYERS: Players involved.
CHARACTERS: Characters involved. (2 minimum)
QUEST: Name of the quest you're signing up for.
SUMMARY: (Optional for light, required for heavy.) How will the quest be tackled? Write a short summary of how the characters intend to succeed and include any relevant details (tensions within the team, particular skills or weaknesses, any relevant triggers to avoid, etc.)

After claiming a quest, a mod will reply with confirmation and/or more details, and may request more information on how the team tackles the quest. For quests that are limited in some way, players who manage a sign up one month will be required to wait for 24 hours after quest posting to sign up for a limited quest the following month.

⟡ quest complete ⟡

Although the team sets out under the brilliant light of dawn for the middle section of the forest, they are quickly shrouded by darkness. Dense foliage surrounds them, but thick, seemingly living fog covers them even more thickly, carrying a threatening aroma of soil and decaying wood.

Though the two appear by all rights to begin at a disadvantage, an incredible stroke of luck strikes the moment they enter the fog. Where typically they would be struck by illusions, or mood swings, the fog almost seems aware that such tricks will no longer be so successful — instead granting visions of future danger.

Once aware of what the fog is doing for them, the duo makes quick progress in navigating the woods. Having no trouble with either wild Pokemon or their surroundings, they eventually catch the scent of blood upon the air. Heavy and metallic, the scent grows stronger the more closely they follow the trail, until at last it becomes almost too much to bear. And just in time, as Firepaw realizes how close the source of their scent trail must be. Without any time to lose, both stop in their tracks just in time to see a massive shadow rise up a short distance away.

It is then that something reveals itself even more clearly through the fog. Gleaming scarlet, a shape like the moon comes forth from the shadow. Despite their proximity however, they have clearly not been spotted — and taking full advantage, are able to strike an ambush against their foe.

The Bloodmoon Beast! The great Ursaluna, empowered by age and brutality!

Caught off guard by their first strike, one would expect for their success to be overwhelming in its power, but Ursaluna's peat moss coat proves an incredible defense. While their attacks clearly whittle away at the Pokemon, they find themselves growing just as weary... and there are more Pokemon than just Ursaluna in these woods. Forced to choose between their safety and a potentially brutal loss, the two quickly retreat while they can.

Though the beast escaped, the battle was a clear Success. In bringing the report of their fight back to Bottlecap Bay, a better understanding of a dire threat can be made. But is the threat even still out there? That Ursaluna was awfully injured by the end, after all...

The battle is won, but not completely finished! Toward the end of the month, we will be randomly choosing a single team to deal the final blow to the Ursaluna - that team will get to decide their ultimate fate. If that is your team, we will reply to this thread on JUNE 24th.

Please fill out the unique form below sometime before the June 24th deadline so that your quest can be considered completed. Please note that you have flexibility and freedom in threading this quest and any related NPCs (the Ursaluna, the senior rescue teams, and any hallucinated characters seen by the team).

Link to thread: Here!
Are there any injuries sustained? Describe them briefly: Dark Heart sustains an injury from physically blocking an attack, standing between Ursaluna and Firepaw. It was a fury swipe that caught him on his side.
How do they handle the battle with Ursaluna?: Dark Heart is able to navigate the illusions of the fog well, communicating with Firepaw about what to strike and what to avoid. Firepaw is agile and covers more ground, functioning as most of the attack power. When the fury swipe from Ursaluna connects, Dark Heart is out of commission, having to crawl away from the scene. It's a little after this that they decide to make a tactical retreat. Dark Heart leans on Firepaw for support as they trail away. They are both clearly worn down by the venture, seemingly unable to put a dent in their opponent's energy.
Do they gather anything from the forest to bring back, or leave it alone?: They are too preoccupied with leaving the situation to bring anything back!
Do they all make it out without rescue?: They make it most of the way before Firepaw's exhaustion catches up with him. For the last leg of the trip through the forest they'll require a rescue or, at the very least, some assistance from one who can carry them.

THE FINAL BLOW! (CW: mentions of Pokemon death)

[personal profile] bayhelpers 2025-06-24 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)

⟡ the final blow! ⟡

After a few days to rest and recover, the team is urged to go back out and track down the Ursaluna. It must be weakened by its previous fights, and should be much easier to capture. And it is — the second battle is much shorter, ending when the Ursaluna lays down and bows its head to the two smaller Pokemon.

With the Ursaluna captured, the forest feels eerily quiet. There is time to think, and soak in the confusion from the final moments of that battle. Both team members could see visions of their battle ending in multiple ways — sometimes they were forced to kill the Ursaluna, sometimes they were badly wounded or killed instead, sometimes they convinced it to surrender just like this. In some of those visions, they even saw completely different teams of Pokemon with them, not all of which are newcomers they recognize.

The visions don't end until they have left the forest. They seem especially bad now, supplying the team with no shortage of ideas on what they could be doing with their new prisoner (or friend?) now that they are defeated. But at least, with no other dangers to worry about, they have plenty of time to consider their options.

Please reply one last time with a decision on the Ursaluna's ultimate fate. They may be killed, captured as a prisoner, recruited as a Bottlecap Bay citizen, or anything else your team can think of!

After some debate, Firepaw and Dark Heart will be making friends with the Ursaluna and recruiting them as a Bottlecap Bay citizen. They will be escorting Ursaluna to the PokeClinic to heal any injuries they've sustained from the various battles, and Firepaw will be checking in on Ursaluna later to make sure they are (a) doing okay and (b) not causing problems in town.
