QUESTBOARD

⋆✩ quests ✩⋆

One of the core responsibilities of guild members within Bottlecap Bay is to complete quests from the Questboard. Located in the center of the city, the questboard is a physical board where Pokemon can submit requests for help, resources, exploration, and all sorts of things. Each quest rewards characters with points to not only increase their member ranking, but also raise the guild ranking, thereby having a direct effect on the direction of the game!

QUEST TYPES

LIGHT QUESTS
These quests are simpler, RNG-style quests that are far more straightforward and don't require a summary or a thread! Light quests are available every month, but during TDM months, they are the only type of quest available, meaning that nothing plot heavy or significant will be placed into the quests. They also only reward 50 points to characters.

HEAVY QUESTS
Heavy quests are more intensive, thread-required quests that often hold bits of plot or more intrigue, and are only available every other month. They are also often more dangerous than light quests, and unlike light quests, are not guaranteed to be completed when submitting for them! Sometimes you can fail these heavy quests, and in that case, no points are rewarded. But depending on the results, these quests can reward anywhere from 100-300 points each!

ALL QUESTS
So what do all quests have in common? Difficulty levels, determined by the filled in stars on a scale of 1-3, with three filled stars being the most difficult. Difficulty can mean anything from physical danger to intensive puzzles, depending on the quest! All quests must also be submitted by the deadline date on the quest itself. Quests of both types can have different amounts of teams allowed to claim it, and the number of teams allowed will be listed per quest. Lastly, players can feel free to roleplay any of the NPCs that are not listed on the Locations page under the NPC section! If it's not game breaking or contradicting of anything in the information available to players, then we generally play by the "do what's most fun!" rules.

Now that the surrounding areas have been made suitably safe for passage, it’s vital that we do our part to record the unique features of each region in full detail. QUEST SIGN-UP

To claim and sign up for a quest, simply fill out the form below and reply to the current month's thread. All quests require at least 2 characters to complete, with no maximum unless specified. Keep in mind that for quests requiring threading, 3 is probably a good number. Multiple quests can be signed up for in one comment.

PLAYERS: Players involved.
CHARACTERS: Characters involved. (2 minimum)
QUEST: Name of the quest you're signing up for.
SUMMARY: (Optional for light, required for heavy.) How will the quest be tackled? Write a short summary of how the characters intend to succeed and include any relevant details (tensions within the team, particular skills or weaknesses, any relevant triggers to avoid, etc.)

After claiming a quest, a mod will reply with confirmation and/or more details, and may request more information on how the team tackles the quest. For quests that are limited in some way, players who manage a sign up one month will be required to wait for 24 hours after quest posting to sign up for a limited quest the following month.

⟡ quest complete ⟡

In the early morning at Bottlecap Bay, the team gathers at the docks with many others to take their assigned rafts into the open ocean. Most of the Pokemon here aren't made for battle on the seas, but with so many attacks the town has been forced to make a decision.

They cannot abide by these actions any longer.

Taking their rafts out to sea, all seems eerily calm. The group travels safely and carefully along on their rafts, soon following a clue in the form of a school of wishiwashi fleeing from far ahead. It's as clear a sign as any other could be, until the empty expanse beneath the waves fills with schools of wishiwashi fleeing... again. That can't be right, can it? The fish Pokemon seem to move in the same groups, the same patterns as they did before.

Despite the blow to the team's confidence, they were clearly correct to follow those fish. Not long after the second school has disappeared, they find a Corviknight floating in the water, struggling to stay conscious. It's a miracle that they're still alive, and the team barely manages to pull the Pokemon onto their raft.

And then, it appears.

Dondozo.

Brilliant white where most would be a deep blue, it breaches the water like a ghost. When it opens its mouth to roar, the team spots a Curly Form Tatsugiri in its mouth, who seems focused in on them with a startling bloodlust in its eyes. The team may realize, quickly or not, that every movement from the Dondozo is a called shot from the Tatsugiri, who shouts abuse at the larger Pokemon every time it takes a hit or fails an attack.

Though caught by surprise, the team reacts with perfect speed. Though disadvantaged by their lesser typings, their skill in trading positions and striking with super effective blows is incredibly efficient. As the battle progresses more, an argument rises between the Tatsugiri and Dondozo. But this is all a trick, and when it seems like the team is about to take advantage, the two Pokemon strike back, jeering insults at the naivety of the team. The resulting attack cascades across the team — Anasui being briefly swallowed when taking the brunt of it. Thanks to the team's careful planning however, Flamebringer and Anasui (attacking from outside and in) soon cause them to spit the bird back out before fleeing in disgust.

The last they see as they float back to shore is the disappearing form of the great fish, vanishing beneath the waves... but did it truly escape for good?

The battle is won, but not completely finished! Toward the end of the month, we will be randomly choosing a single team to deal the final blow to the Dondozo and Tatsugiri - that team will get to decide their ultimate fate. If that is your team, we will reply to this thread on JUNE 24th.

Please fill out the unique form below sometime before the June 24th deadline so that your quest can be considered completed. Please note that you have flexibility and freedom in threading this quest and any related NPCs (the Dondozo and Tatsugiri, the senior rescue teams, and any other Pokemon seen out on the ocean).

Link to thread: Here!
Are there any injuries sustained? Describe them briefly: The entire party is going to be drenched and sporting multiple bruises/minor battle injuries (with Flamebringer and Anasui both notably limping) but overall nothing major. Laios will also probably end up with a light cold that should clear up by the end of the month.

How do they handle the battle with Dondozo and Tatsugiri?: Aside from what we discussed previously, there are a few things to note.

- Flamebringer and Sanji had a lot of experience handling the fog in their TDM thread, so they're good at warning the others and keep an eye out for problems. Generally coaching the entire team on how to handle it.
- Flamebringer will play defense for Anasui and Sanji while trying to get in shots between. He'll be letting Laios do the most damage.
- Sanji will likely focus on reviving the Corviknight with food and such when he can, even as chaos erupts. It’s mainly because he’s softhearted, but also any information the bird can offer is greatly appreciated, being at such a disadvantage himself. Otherwise, he'll be clearing illusions with Ember, perhaps landing a Disable where he can.
- While Sanji will willingly provide himself as a distraction (and use Tail Whip), Anasui will be mainly be the distraction with Ally Swaps and using psychic moves.
- Laios will be spending more time fighting in the water to get off Discharge. If he gets off a Volt Switch, it would be to swap with Anasui or Flamebringer only; he’d also try to tank any water-type moves for Sanji when possible, if the other two can’t, due to his type advantage.
- Sanji may take this Tatsugiri to be an abuser of sorts instead of being in a symbiotic relationship (oops! Projecting), and maybe tried to get in close to remove the “problem” smaller pokemon (via quick attacks and jumping off others). This probably will lead to Anasui getting swallowed after quickly swapping places, which Sanji will kick himself for long after.
- However, Sanji won't realise this was the plan. As Anasui would have figured out by then that he's actually a lot more buffed in this fight than we initially realised! Not only does he have his magical hat that makes him stronger while he's defending his teammates, but he also has the ability 'Opportunist'.
- Basically, Anasui is used to dirty, brutal fights and he'll mirror Dondozo's buff given by Tatsugiri commanding it around. Once he's inside the mouth, he'll let loose every one of his attacks. It will not be pretty.
Do they gather anything from the ocean or beach to bring back, or leave it alone?: Laios will be taking a few of Corviknight’s shed feathers. As much as he would like to grab a few stray Wishiwashi for Sanji to cook later, he’ll be unsuccessful. However, if there are any stray dead fish Pokemon, Sanji will collect as cooking supplies for later. He’s not gonna go out of his way/endanger the mission for this, of course.

Flamebringer and Anasui are the complete opposite. They're not grabbing anything from the ocean.
Do they all make it out without rescue?: Since they have two type-disadvantages (Dark and Water), they'll likely need a rescue. Laios at the very least will still have enough energy to help paddle one raft to shore. Back on the beach, he’ll be too exhausted to do much else, so if any other rafts need hauling, they’ll likely need a senior team to help. Sanji meanwhile will be fairly okay but if all his bigger teammates are down/exhausted, he’s going to be shouting for attention from other teams for aid in reeling them back in! And be really fussy and snappish about it. It’s how he shows concern. But he'll be able to help with his berries once they're back at home. Meanwhile, Anasui is going to be exhausted. He really pushed himself there...

THE FINAL BLOW!

[personal profile] bayhelpers 2025-06-24 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)

⟡ the final blow! ⟡

After a few days to rest and recover, the team is urged to go back out and track down the Dondozo. It must be weakened by its previous fights, and should be much easier to capture. And it is — the second battle is much shorter, ending when the Dondozo spits out the Tatsugiri and tries to flee on its own.

With the Tatsugiri captured (and perhaps the Dondozo too, if they wish) the fog seems to start slowly rolling back. In the distance, they can see other islands... or maybe not, since land doesn't normally shift in and out of view, changing shape and location, nor completely disappear once the fog is clear.

At first, the Tatsugiri is fully convinced that they were defending Bottlecap Bay from the team — when he settles down, it seems to be the fog loosening its grip, more than any convincing argument. And once it is gone, he is mostly just confused.

Please reply one last time with a decision on the Tatsugiri and Dondozo's ultimate fate. They may be killed, captured as prisoners, recruited as Bottlecap Bay citizens, or anything else your team can think of!

That Dondozo isn't going anywhere. Anasui will go whaling and wrangle that Dondozo so both fish can face the music.

Initially, Laios and Anasui are ready to kill it (for sushi purposes and to 'finish the job' respectively) but once the Tatsugiri starts getting its senses back, Laios is going to lose interest in eating them. Flamebringer, seeing Tatsugiri's lack of hostility and confusion, will see no point in killing it since they're no longer a threat and will dissuade Anasui in killing them, saying it's a waste of their time at the moment. Although Anasui disagrees with the sentiment, he and Flamebringer let the other two decide Tatsugiri and Dondozo's fate.

Sanji and Laios both agree not to kill the fish but while Sanji opts for taking them in as prisoners, Laios suggests that they take them back and keep them under watch (like prisoners) with the eventual hope that they'll recruit at least the Tatsugiri. After all, the guilds are lacking water Pokemon... Laios wants to know about the ocean!

TLDR: Recruitment as citizens under heavy scrutiny. If they cause problems, every member of this team is gonna kick their asses again.
