QUESTBOARD
⋆✩ quests ✩⋆
One of the core responsibilities of guild members within Bottlecap Bay is to complete quests from the Questboard. Located in the center of the city, the questboard is a physical board where Pokemon can submit requests for help, resources, exploration, and all sorts of things. Each quest rewards characters with points to not only increase their member ranking, but also raise the guild ranking, thereby having a direct effect on the direction of the game!
QUEST TYPES
LIGHT QUESTS
These quests are simpler, RNG-style quests that are far more straightforward and don't require a summary or a thread! Light quests are available every month, but during TDM months, they are the only type of quest available, meaning that nothing plot heavy or significant will be placed into the quests. They also typically reward 50 points to characters, but occasionally reward 100 points.
HEAVY QUESTS
Heavy quests are more intensive, thread-required quests that often hold bits of plot or more intrigue, and are only available every other month. They are also often more dangerous than light quests, and unlike light quests, are not guaranteed to be completed when submitting for them! Depending on the results, these quests can reward anywhere from 200-300 points each depending on success! Characters may only participate in one heavy quest per month.
PLAYER QUESTS
These are quests submitted by other players, available as players come up with them. A player may submit a quest during any month, and may even post the same quest again on a subsequent month, when it makes sense ICly to do so. They are otherwise very similar to Light Quests; more information can be found below, but as a rule, they reward 50 points to characters.
ALL QUESTS
So what do all quests have in common? They must be submitted by the deadline date on the quest itself, and each character may claim points from a given quest only once, though they may repeat the quest with other teams as many times as they like.
Mod quests in particular will have difficulty levels, determined by the filled in stars on a scale of 1-3, with three filled stars being the most difficult. Difficulty can mean anything from physical danger to intensive puzzles, depending on the quest! Mod quests of both types may also sometimes have claim limits, with the number of teams allowed listed per quest.
Lastly, players can feel free to roleplay any of the NPCs that are not listed on the Locations page under the NPC section! If it's not game breaking or contradicting anything in the information available to players, then we generally play by the "do what's most fun!" rules.

PLAYER QUESTS
Player Quests are now open! These are quests ICly posted by your character to any of Bottlecap Bay's quest boards. They may be quests that are meant for the benefit of the city (or outlying outposts, or good relations with local Pokemon), or they may be quests for a character's personal concerns... and even joke quests are very welcome, for CR purposes!
(Just keep in mind IC reactions while devising a quest - guild leaders may choose not to reward points for "come perform a handstand for me," and there may be negative consequences for posting "assassinate my annoying guild coworker!")
Some general guidelines:
- To respond to a player quest, other players may use the same submission form as for mod quests; they do not have to provide a thread, but do have to fill out the summary.
- For all quests, quests may reward 50 points! Points track how helpful a character is overall, so they may be awarded for (reasonable, non-joke) personal quests as well!
- For quests for the benefit of Bottlecap Bay, guild leaders will generally also allow for item rewards from guild resources. These rewards should be restricted to a single item or type of item chosen by the quest-writing player, and can be one of: berries, basic stones, basic accessories (with no special effects), or small furniture items. A character may also offer handmade items that they are able to make/obtain the resources for.
- For personal quests, guild leaders will not allow for item rewards from guild resources... but a character may still offer handmade items that they are able to make/obtain the resources for!
- Characters who are ICly posting the quest obviously cannot join their own quest! However, at mod discretion, posting a quest may result in extra points in the next point tally, particularly if the quest is for the benefit of Bottlecap Bay - the guild leaders will reward someone looking out for the success of the city.
- Quests may not have limited entry slots.
- Quest-writing players will decide whether responses pass or fail. (They may choose to respond with a blurb with more flavor details, or just a note saying pass/fail.)
- Posted rewards will be fully awarded regardless of pass/fail. If a quest says the reward is 50 points and a berry, then even failing teams will get those rewards.
- It is fine for personal quests to have a biased pass/fail outcome for CR purposes, such as a designated team being pre-arranged to be the only one who succeeds. However, this must be made clear beforehand OOCly, and the above point must be followed.
- Players may decide whether their quest is worth 50 points or 0 points. We're trusting players to use their best judgement! (ICly, points are always awarded by the guild leaders, but will still be awarded for non-joke personal quests that take effort. For example: "My important item is missing, please help me search the woods" or "I want to make a feast to cheer up my friend but I don't know how to cook, please help.")
- If a player would like to have their character ICly post a problematic quest and receive consequences from their guild leader, please contact the mods on the mod contact beforehand! (This is for quests that would be viewed as actively harmful, rather than silly ones.)
- Players may not have their own characters, even their other character, submit for a quest that they posted.
SUBMISSION FORMAT
Please use the following format to set up a player quest!
If you would like, you may also use the following format when responding with quest results (but this is not required)!
QUEST SIGN-UP
To claim and sign up for a quest, simply fill out the form below and reply to the current month's thread for mod quests, or to the individual quest for player quests. All quests require at least 2 characters to complete, with no maximum unless specified. Keep in mind that for quests requiring threading, 3 is probably a good number. Multiple quests can be signed up for in one comment.
PLAYERS: Players involved.
CHARACTERS: Characters involved. (2 minimum)
QUEST: Name of the quest you're signing up for.
SUMMARY: (Optional for light, required for heavy or player quests.) How will the quest be tackled? Write a short summary of how the characters intend to succeed and include any relevant details (tensions within the team, particular skills or weaknesses, any relevant triggers to avoid, etc.)
After claiming a quest, a mod will reply with confirmation and/or more details, and may request more information on how the team tackles the quest. For quests that are limited in some way, players who manage a sign up one month will be required to wait for 24 hours after quest posting to sign up for a limited quest the following month.

Are there any injuries sustained? Describe them briefly:
Kris is still literally poisoned, and it's going to get worse; while the aim is to find some berries or seeds to potentially stave off the symptoms on the way to finding this mystery Pokemon, the Deino will be too DETERMINED to simply turn back...and while they aren't weak to Poison type specifically, they'll be coming out of this pretty ragged after playing support.
Laios is little better. On top of being poisoned and suffering from heat exhaustion, he sees it as his responsibility to tank most attacks- so at best he'll probably end up with numerous bruises and scrapes. If the enemy Pokemon has Ground attacks, it'll be even worse! He could be fully knocked out.
Emporio is by far the one doing the best. He's not nearly as exhausted as the other two, and while he's not immune to poison, he's fairly resistant- and also, just plain Not Poisoned right now. If he sustains any injuries, it'll either be because he failed to dodge something coming his way (which to be fair, he's pretty good at!) or because the path to this Pokemon included snow and he got a rash. Something worth noting though, his ability is 'Battle Armor'...so Emporio can't be hit with Critical Attacks.
How do they ultimately deal with the region's challenges?: Despite the terrible choice at hand, everyone choses to forge onward; as noted, Kris is too determined to give up (as is the Soul), and Laios isn't arguing. Emporio as well doesn't think it's a good idea to fully turn back. The path they're taking has them closer to help than to Skull Town if anything, since the forest leads back to Bottlecap Bay. In theory, maybe if they really do fail to find any berries they'll just...end up at town again!
Yeah that's not happening. On the upside, Emporio and Laios are both so old-hat at walking those woods that they're not about to be lost. And Kris was just...straight up lost there for a good long while, so they're ALSO really familiar with this environment! Laios is able to keep on the trail of this Pokemon by scent, and Emporio meanwhile has studied medicinal berries and seeds like the back of his hand, which means if they're lucky they could rock up to their culprit totally cured!!
Are they prepared for combat?: Absolutely they are! While Kris has no Ground moves, the other two do; Laios will be brainstorming strategies on their way to the bounty in case it's needed, and if it's a poison type as they suspect, he's equipped with Dig for a combo attack and evade- as well as 'nuzzle' to paralyze their foe.
Emporio meanwhile has a STAB with the Ground type, having 'Bonemerang' at his disposal- as well as Focus Energy to increase the odds of hitting critical. In a pinch, he'll also be able to use Fling to launch any nearby rocks or seeds to further damage an enemy as needed. ...He just has to pray that if this IS a poison type, they're not poison grass, as is common.
Back to Kris though, they're used to fighting on their last legs, so while it shouldn't work as well as it does...they will probably do fairly well. And then collapse as soon as it's over, oof. They'll be spamming a lot of irritating moves like Taunt, Torment, and Spite- and they also have Dragon Cheer, which will help the team hit harder!
Given the choice, would they spare their target?: Assuming that 'given the choice' means they have the high ground and the enemy isn't trying to annihilate them anymore, Emporio would absolutely spare his opponent. It doesn't sit right, killing someone who's no longer fighting them. Kris will also insist on sparing the Pokemon, though for potentially more selfish reasons. Maybe they will get a cool accessory out of this?? Mysteries.
Laios, being outvoted, will follow the lead even if he doesn't agree.
SUCCESS
The forest clearing should be a sunny, well-lit place - or barring that, at least foggy, surely? The air clean and fresh? But the clearing seeps with poisoned fumes, and it's that smog which the sun can barely penetrate. The grass under the team's feet is sad and wilted, and even the moss coating the giant mossy rock appears sick, with large patches withered and dried out. And maybe the toxic, acrid air would be the real hazard here... if not for the ominous figure hovering above the mossy rock, crystalline petals spread wide. They screech in fury as soon as they spot the party, petals rotating furiously and spinning out waves of poisonous debris.
It's Mega Glimmora, and until battled into submission, they will not listen to reason.
The battle is a terrible ordeal, not helped by the rifts that wink open and closed rapidly throughout. In one moment the team will find themselves dropped into a burning landscape, the heat tearing at them as if they're back in Furnace Mountain. Overhead, strange and alien beings rip and tear at each other - it's an exact match to the nightmare almost everyone experienced last month! Then the team will be back to the fight, poisonous fumes seeping through the grass. Sometimes a team member blinks out of the battle for a few seconds, or someone else familiar to you from town appears to launch an attack or simply stumble in surprise. In another moment the team witnesses what may have been the start of all this: Glimmora, inspecting what looks like a concentration of rifts tangled together in the lava pools of Furnace Mountain. There are so many of them crossed through each other that they're actually visible as a dark, jagged mass, spitting out sparks of energy. Glimmora drifts toward it confidently, brushing against one edge, and this seals their fate. The rifts all collapse, sending energy ripping through them with violent twists of red and violet - Glimmora spasms in the air, letting out a wail of betrayed surprise and agony, as petal after petal is ripped violently away from their body. But the rift spits everyone back out into the fight before anyone can react to warn or stop them.
The team's foraging in the forest brought them back into fighting shape - but only barely. Kris and Laios are no longer wobbling and dizzy, and the poison pumping through their veins has been neutralized, but they're having to battle with a sense of lingering nausea. Regardless, Kris is the first to draw Mega Glimmora's attention, their Taunt and Torment infuriating the crystalline Pokemon - and when Mega Glimmora focuses on them, their attention is drawn away from Emporio and Laios, who land hard-hitting and very super-effective moves. Then it's Laios's turn, annoying their opponent by ducking in and out of the ground with Dig. Mega Glimmora is reduced to stabbing angrily at the ground with their cone - and when a yelp indicates that it's finally gotten Laios once, it's Emporio's turn. He drives their opponent to distraction by scurrying around the clearing, Flinging everything he can get his hands on, while the other two take a turn at dishing out attacks unmolested.
It's a remarkable showing for a team that wasn't in good shape going into combat... but as the fight drags on, it almost seems like it'll be for naught. Between the fumes and toxic debris dropped all over the clearing, the team succumbs to poison one by one - even Emporio, who had been spared up until this point! And this time they definitely don't have anything left to cure each other. It quickly becomes a battle of attrition, and despite the incredible damage they're delivering, the team is losing. Laios is the first to fall, with his determination to take as many of the attacks aimed at the other two as possible - he's left twitching on the ground, unable to stand, vision blurring in and out. The other two seem just about ready to follow... is this the end?
But in one final, wrenching effort, fueled by Kris's Dragon Cheer, Kris and Emporio land one last attack, together. Then they collapse into unconsciousness, heads spinning. Only Laios is left awake to witness what follows.
As Mega Glimmora sinks into the grass, energy bursts out of them, escaping in bright streamers that zag off into the distance. The poisonous fumes blow away, dispersed by the breeze, and everything quiets. Were you really the only team that made it here?
Glimmora, now, is back to his usual form, slowly drifting back to consciousness - but Laios is in no state to decide what to do with him, no matter what the team's plans. Laios can only watch, vision going black, as the crystalline Pokemon approaches his fallen teammates, reaching for a glimmering something that one of them dropped...
When the team wakes, they're all in the clinic in Bottlecap Bay, being treated for severe poisoning. After everyone is scolded for the close call, the rest of the story comes out - it sounds like Glimmora found one of their grumpearls and accidentally opened contact with one of the Grumpigs. Based on what he communicated, another team was rapidly sent out of town to fetch Laios, Kris, and Emporio. Glimmora stuck around long enough to be sure they survived until their rescue arrived, apparently feeling responsible, but then left. He showed no interest in joining the town, and refused the offer to keep a grumpearl - indicating only that he was headed back to Furnace Mountain.
The team is left to wonder: what consequences will this bring?
Despite it being hard to call their battle a "victory," as such, the quest does seem to have been a success. Glimmora remains at large, but there are no more reports of poisoned Pokemon coming in! Perhaps the team will be cheered in their long clinic stay by the knowledge that for their valorous work, they each receive 300 points!
But seriously, get some rest!
