QUESTBOARD

⋆✩ quests ✩⋆

One of the core responsibilities of guild members within Bottlecap Bay is to complete quests from the Questboard. Located in the center of the city, the questboard is a physical board where Pokemon can submit requests for help, resources, exploration, and all sorts of things. Each quest rewards characters with points to not only increase their member ranking, but also raise the guild ranking, thereby having a direct effect on the direction of the game!

QUEST TYPES

LIGHT QUESTS
These quests are simpler, RNG-style quests that are far more straightforward and don't require a summary or a thread! Light quests are available every month, but during TDM months, they are the only type of quest available, meaning that nothing plot heavy or significant will be placed into the quests. They also typically reward 50 points to characters.

HEAVY QUESTS
Heavy quests are more intensive, thread-required quests that often hold bits of plot or more intrigue, and are only available every other month. They are also often more dangerous than light quests, and unlike light quests, are not guaranteed to be completed when submitting for them! Sometimes you can fail these heavy quests, and in that case, no points are rewarded. But depending on the results, these quests can reward anywhere from 100-300 points each!

PLAYER QUESTS
These are quests submitted by other players, available as players come up with them. A player may submit a quest during any month, and may even post the same quest again on a subsequent month, when it makes sense ICly to do so. They are otherwise very similar to Light Quests; more information can be found below, but as a rule, they reward 50 points to characters.

ALL QUESTS
So what do all quests have in common? They must be submitted by the deadline date on the quest itself, and each character may claim points from a given quest only once, though they may repeat the quest with other teams as many times as they like.

Mod quests in particular will have difficulty levels, determined by the filled in stars on a scale of 1-3, with three filled stars being the most difficult. Difficulty can mean anything from physical danger to intensive puzzles, depending on the quest! Mod quests of both types may also sometimes have claim limits, with the number of teams allowed listed per quest.

Lastly, players can feel free to roleplay any of the NPCs that are not listed on the Locations page under the NPC section! If it's not game breaking or contradicting anything in the information available to players, then we generally play by the "do what's most fun!" rules.

PLAYER QUESTS
Player Quests are now open! These are quests ICly posted by your character to any of Bottlecap Bay's quest boards. They may be quests that are meant for the benefit of the city (or outlying outposts, or good relations with local Pokemon), or they may be quests for a character's personal concerns... and even joke quests are very welcome, for CR purposes!

(Just keep in mind IC reactions while devising a quest - guild leaders may choose not to reward points for "come perform a handstand for me," and there may be negative consequences for posting "assassinate my annoying guild coworker!")

Some general guidelines:

  • To respond to a player quest, other players may use the same submission form as for mod quests; they do not have to provide a thread, but do have to fill out the summary.
  • For all quests, quests may reward 50 points! Points track how helpful a character is overall, so they may be awarded for (reasonable, non-joke) personal quests as well!
  • For quests for the benefit of Bottlecap Bay, guild leaders will generally also allow for item rewards from guild resources. These rewards should be restricted to a single item or type of item chosen by the quest-writing player, and can be one of: berries, basic stones, basic accessories (with no special effects), or small furniture items. A character may also offer handmade items that they are able to make/obtain the resources for.
  • For personal quests, guild leaders will not allow for item rewards from guild resources... but a character may still offer handmade items that they are able to make/obtain the resources for!
  • Characters who are ICly posting the quest obviously cannot join their own quest! However, at mod discretion, posting a quest may result in extra points in the next point tally, particularly if the quest is for the benefit of Bottlecap Bay - the guild leaders will reward someone looking out for the success of the city.
To keep things fair and also manageable for the mods, at the moment the below are the policies for player quests. These may be updated in the future if we run into any problems!

  • Quests may not have limited entry slots.
  • Quest-writing players will decide whether responses pass or fail. (They may choose to respond with a blurb with more flavor details, or just a note saying pass/fail.)
  • Posted rewards will be fully awarded regardless of pass/fail. If a quest says the reward is 50 points and a berry, then even failing teams will get those rewards.
  • It is fine for personal quests to have a biased pass/fail outcome for CR purposes, such as a designated team being pre-arranged to be the only one who succeeds. However, this must be made clear beforehand OOCly, and the above point must be followed.
  • Players may decide whether their quest is worth 50 points or 0 points. We're trusting players to use their best judgement! (ICly, points are always awarded by the guild leaders, but will still be awarded for non-joke personal quests that take effort. For example: "My important item is missing, please help me search the woods" or "I want to make a feast to cheer up my friend but I don't know how to cook, please help.")
  • If a player would like to have their character ICly post a problematic quest and receive consequences from their guild leader, please contact the mods on the mod contact beforehand! (This is for quests that would be viewed as actively harmful, rather than silly ones.)
  • Players may not have their own characters, even their other character, submit for a quest that they posted.

SUBMISSION FORMAT
Please use the following format to set up a player quest!

If you would like, you may also use the following format when responding with quest results (but this is not required)!

QUEST SIGN-UP

To claim and sign up for a quest, simply fill out the form below and reply to the current month's thread for mod quests, or to the individual quest for player quests. All quests require at least 2 characters to complete, with no maximum unless specified. Keep in mind that for quests requiring threading, 3 is probably a good number. Multiple quests can be signed up for in one comment.

PLAYERS: Players involved.
CHARACTERS: Characters involved. (2 minimum)
QUEST: Name of the quest you're signing up for.
SUMMARY: (Optional for light, required for heavy or player quests.) How will the quest be tackled? Write a short summary of how the characters intend to succeed and include any relevant details (tensions within the team, particular skills or weaknesses, any relevant triggers to avoid, etc.)

After claiming a quest, a mod will reply with confirmation and/or more details, and may request more information on how the team tackles the quest. For quests that are limited in some way, players who manage a sign up one month will be required to wait for 24 hours after quest posting to sign up for a limited quest the following month.

A TV-TASTIC STUDIO
QUEST GIVER: Tenna
DEADLINE: Must be submitted before Monday, October 20th.

Having finally properly settled, Tenna is looking to set up a new studio for TV Time! He's looking for people to gather materials, builders, set designers, and, of course, employees! He can't put on proper shows, games, and quizzes if he doesn't have a place to prepare them and host them, after all! Come on, kids, don't you love TV? Look, he'll even give you a voucher for the gift shop! Huh? We don't have a gift shop yet? Ah... well. Something else will have to do.

POINTS REWARDED: 50 points
EXTRA REWARDS?: A hand-made piece of TV Time merch (quality may vary)

OTHER: Tenna can be pushy and impatient. If he gets the sense your character isn't giving it their all, he may get mad! He promised to do better, but old habits die hard...

Addendum: I think this counts as a personal quests, but mods willing, he is also setting up a place for entertainment for the entire city, so it might be considered helping Bottlecap Bay? Unsure.

PLAYERS: Mauyn, Bre
CHARACTERS: Emmet, Bigby
QUEST: A TV-tastic Studio
SUMMARY: Live from New York, it’s Saturday night TV Time! Bigby and Emmet take on Hollywood as the resident New Yorkers of Bottlecap Bay. Emmet's got some height to him as a H-Zoroark, so he could help with any heavy lifting; meanwhile, Bigby the speedy little Morpeko can make for a decent set runner and errand boy. How they managed to get roped into this is a mystery, but they've worked together before and are always determined to get a job done well. At least, when Emmet isn't trolling Bigby for his ghost mischeif quota; maybe they'd make a good comedy duo actually—

Be warned: Emmet will very much ask when Tenna might be from, so let's hope he doesn't get too much of a complex about being old news tech! But not to worry — Bigby, local eighties man, proud owner of a CRT TV, and definite Johnny Carson enjoyer, will be here to support Tenna in the middle of his own out-of-time crisis.

⟡ quest complete ⟡

As soon as they sign up, an excited Tenna comes to greet them. He quickly goes over his plans for the studio, and all the whatzits and doodads he wants to include. The amount of information he spouts at a rapid pace is enough to send anyone's head spinning, but the bug is clearly running a tight ship; he immediately assigns Emmet to help with setting up the skeleton for the building, carrying and holding large wooden beams in place while they're affixed. Bigby, meanwhile, is assigned to carving the wood into the appropriate shapes and sizes. Whenever there's a moment of pause in their respective tasks, he's quick to usher them into another; there's always something to do!

In the brief breaks they get, Tenna is delighted to talk about himself and TV Time, though he's less than impressed with Emmet's dismissal of old tech. (It's classic! Who needs those paper-thin imitators?!) When they get back to work, while his demeanor remains largely the same, he's clearly saddling Emmet with more work now, and is notably less patient with him. Bigby's support of CRTs, however, has the opposite effect! Tenna spends more time personally helping Bigby out, and notably compliments him on his work.

At the end of the day, they've made good progress on the TV Time studio, and Tenna proudly admires their work. For a job well done, they are both rewarded 50 points. Additionally, Bigby receives a small, hand-carved wooden figurine of a man with a TV for a head, whereas Emmet receives a berry with the letters "TV" carved into it. Congratulations!

PLAYERS: Pyra and Holly
CHARACTERS: Anasui and Kinger
QUEST: A TV-TASTIC STUDIO
SUMMARY: Anasui has no interest in being an employee but he's more than happy to build (and dismantle) everything Tenna has to make sure he has the perfect Studio. Being larger than most Pokemon, he can drag heavy loads and use his psychic abilities to drag things along. Meanwhile, Kinger is here to help. He's small enough to put things Anasui can't quite reach together and is generally more cooperative than Anasui. Should be okay.

The amount of information he spouts at a rapid pace is enough to send anyone's head spinning, but the bug is clearly running a tight ship; he immediately sends Anasui to help out with dragging the heavy, carved tree trunks he intends to use as a base around, while Kinger gets assigned to the finer work; tying knots, making sure everything is level, and organizing tools that get tossed around by the crew. It's not the most glamorous task, but it's important!

Tenna cries out the first time Anasui takes apart one of the finished pieces, horrified. That took hours to complete! What do you mean it wasn't perfect, yes it was! He deigns to give Anasui another chance, but the next time he does it, Tenna's chasing him off, yelling the entire time! Kinger, however, despite his small stature, does a good job in Tenna's eyes. He's impressed with his efforts, and happily compliments him on his work.

At the end of the day, they've made good progress on the studio, and Tenna proudly admires the work. As a reward, they both receive 50 points. Kinger also receives a banana yellow tie similar to the one Tenna is wearing. As Tenna is still disgruntled with Anasui for dismantling pieces of his studio, he receives nothing extra.

PLAYERS: Usagi, Lavvy
CHARACTERS: Emporio, Siffrin
QUEST: A Tv-Tastic Studio
SUMMARY: Emporio is pretty sure they can't actually make TV shows here, because there don't seem to be any TVs, but he has to respect the grind and also the spirit! Also he's a child,

Siffrin is pretty excited for their part, and good at manual labor- maybe having claws will help?? They keep talking about their favorite plays, of which Emporio has a comparatively small pool to draw from (read: none pool)

The amount of information he spouts at a rapid pace is enough to send anyone's head spinning, but the bug is clearly running a tight ship; he's quick to put both Siffrin and Emporio to work on carving up wood for the stage. It has to be intricate, and a pair of smaller Pokemon seem perfect for the job!

He's more than happy to talk to them every time he comes by, endeared by Siffrin and Emporio's enthusiasm. He's extremely interested in the plays Siffrin talks about, mentally taking notes and promising that, once the studio is complete, he'll put on one of their choosing! His own excitement practically radiates off of him the entire time he talks about how he'd do it, and sticks around once they go back to work.

By the end of the day, they've made good progress, and Tenna proudly admires everyone's work. For a job well done, they both receive 50 points! Additionally, Siffrin receives a hand-crafted pin that displays the letters 'TV', while Emporio receives a somewhat lopsided plush that vaguely resembles a CRT. Congratulations!

PLAYERS: Kururu and Holly
CHARACTERS: Courier Six and Kinger
QUEST: A TV-TASTIC STUDIO
SUMMARY: While the two aren't familiar with each other, Courier Six and Kinger both have their own traits and perks which would help with setting up TV Time.

Courier Six knows quite a few people around the Bay, and uses that to seek out the best people to help with construction, as well as people who might wish to work for this program. He also seems rather enthusiastic about television and doesn't seem to know much technology past the 50s, 60s if you push it. CRTs are all the rage, and once he learns Tenna was one, he is going to be so very enthusiactic. (Is it because he misses his robot boyfriend? Perhaps.) Even if the two don't know it, Courier Six is slipping into a comfortable persona here.

Meanwhile, Kinger is still rather new to the Bay, but seems to know quite a bit about surviving and working in a fantasy realm. He would find himself often the one put upon to do things around the 'studio', but as long as he was kept in a darker corner with nice Morelull lights and paperwork? Or whatever passes for it here? That'd make him work well in this.

The amount of information he spouts at a rapid pace is enough to send anyone's head spinning, but the bug is clearly running a tight ship; He immediately puts Courier Six to work on the roof, though not before expressing his delight in seeing Kinger again! He gives the smaller Pokemon a checklist this time, asking him to take note of everything that has been done, and what still needs to be done. Of course, Tenna keeps an eye out himself, but an extra pair to make sure never hurt!

On their break, Tenna is more than delighted to talk all about himself to Courier Six. It's nice to be modern technology for once! Without noticing, Tenna has found himself opening up slightly to both Courier Six and Kinger, finding himself comfortable with the duo. It seems he enjoyed talking to them!

At the end of the day, they've made good progress on the studio, and Tenna proudly admires their work. As a reward, they receive 50 points. Additionally, Courier Six receives a hat with the letters 'TV' stitched on it, while Kinger receives a basket full of pecha berries. Congratulations!

QUEST: A TV-Tastic Studio!
SUMMARY: With Parvati's skill with building and tinkering, Akechi's sharp eye for detail, and his own experience being on television, the two should be able to contribute in their own unique way. The amount of information he spouts at a rapid pace is enough to send anyone's head spinning, but the bug is clearly running a tight ship; he immediately ushers Parvati into hammering logs into the ground, and nails into the logs. That giant hammer is perfect for the job, right? Akechi, meanwhile, gets tasked with making sure everyone has enough materials, and to help refill them when someone is running out. Chop chop, you didn't get wings for no reason!

As they work, Tenna grows impressed with Parvati's skills with building! She's a real handyman- er, woman, isn't she? Akechi's tips are eagerly written down and analyzed, though one can't help but notice the way Tenna scowls at some of them when he thinks nobody is looking. He has an image in mind, and it doesn't seem like all of Akechi's ideas line up with his own... oops!

At the end of they day, Tenna appears satisfied with both of their work. As a reward, they receive 50 points!. Additionally, Parvati receives a hand-crafted statue of a man with a TV for a head, who appears to be T-posing, while Akechi receives a banana-yellow ribbon! Congratulations!

The amount of information he spouts at a rapid pace is enough to send anyone's head spinning, but the bug is clearly running a tight ship; having worked with Archnemon, before, he's quick to put her to work on double-checking the scaffolding, and transporting the smaller but very necessary materials between the top and the bottom. Guilmon, meanwhile, is put to work on hammering down the roof. If he needs anything, he can ask Archnemon to get it for him.

Endeared by Guilmon's enthusiasm, Tenna's quick to latch onto the Charmeleon, eagerly telling him about all his plans for the studio. Oh, Archnemon can listen in too, he supposes... it's not like he's doing anything bad! He just wants to entertain the Pokemon here! If she pays close attention, perhaps she can hear the desperate edge that's always in his voice when he talks about wanting to entertain...

At the end of the day, tenna admires, everyone's work. He seems proud of the progress, and as a reward, everyone gets 50 points. Additionally, Guilmon receives a wooden toy train with the letters 'TV' carved into the side. Meanwhile, Archnemon receives a banana-yellow bow! Congratulations!
