QUESTBOARD
⋆✩ quests ✩⋆
One of the core responsibilities of guild members within Bottlecap Bay is to complete quests from the Questboard. Located in the center of the city, the questboard is a physical board where Pokemon can submit requests for help, resources, exploration, and all sorts of things. Each quest rewards characters with points to not only increase their member ranking, but also raise the guild ranking, thereby having a direct effect on the direction of the game!
QUEST TYPES
LIGHT QUESTS
These quests are simpler, RNG-style quests that are far more straightforward and don't require a summary or a thread! Light quests are available every month, but during TDM months, they are the only type of quest available, meaning that nothing plot heavy or significant will be placed into the quests. They also typically reward 50 points to characters.
HEAVY QUESTS
Heavy quests are more intensive, thread-required quests that often hold bits of plot or more intrigue, and are only available every other month. They are also often more dangerous than light quests, and unlike light quests, are not guaranteed to be completed when submitting for them! Sometimes you can fail these heavy quests, and in that case, no points are rewarded. But depending on the results, these quests can reward anywhere from 100-300 points each!
PLAYER QUESTS
These are quests submitted by other players, available as players come up with them. A player may submit a quest during any month, and may even post the same quest again on a subsequent month, when it makes sense ICly to do so. They are otherwise very similar to Light Quests; more information can be found below, but as a rule, they reward 50 points to characters.
ALL QUESTS
So what do all quests have in common? They must be submitted by the deadline date on the quest itself, and each character may claim points from a given quest only once, though they may repeat the quest with other teams as many times as they like.
Mod quests in particular will have difficulty levels, determined by the filled in stars on a scale of 1-3, with three filled stars being the most difficult. Difficulty can mean anything from physical danger to intensive puzzles, depending on the quest! Mod quests of both types may also sometimes have claim limits, with the number of teams allowed listed per quest.
Lastly, players can feel free to roleplay any of the NPCs that are not listed on the Locations page under the NPC section! If it's not game breaking or contradicting anything in the information available to players, then we generally play by the "do what's most fun!" rules.

PLAYER QUESTS
Player Quests are now open! These are quests ICly posted by your character to any of Bottlecap Bay's quest boards. They may be quests that are meant for the benefit of the city (or outlying outposts, or good relations with local Pokemon), or they may be quests for a character's personal concerns... and even joke quests are very welcome, for CR purposes!
(Just keep in mind IC reactions while devising a quest - guild leaders may choose not to reward points for "come perform a handstand for me," and there may be negative consequences for posting "assassinate my annoying guild coworker!")
Some general guidelines:
- To respond to a player quest, other players may use the same submission form as for mod quests; they do not have to provide a thread, but do have to fill out the summary.
- For all quests, quests may reward 50 points! Points track how helpful a character is overall, so they may be awarded for (reasonable, non-joke) personal quests as well!
- For quests for the benefit of Bottlecap Bay, guild leaders will generally also allow for item rewards from guild resources. These rewards should be restricted to a single item or type of item chosen by the quest-writing player, and can be one of: berries, basic stones, basic accessories (with no special effects), or small furniture items. A character may also offer handmade items that they are able to make/obtain the resources for.
- For personal quests, guild leaders will not allow for item rewards from guild resources... but a character may still offer handmade items that they are able to make/obtain the resources for!
- Characters who are ICly posting the quest obviously cannot join their own quest! However, at mod discretion, posting a quest may result in extra points in the next point tally, particularly if the quest is for the benefit of Bottlecap Bay - the guild leaders will reward someone looking out for the success of the city.
- Quests may not have limited entry slots.
- Quest-writing players will decide whether responses pass or fail. (They may choose to respond with a blurb with more flavor details, or just a note saying pass/fail.)
- Posted rewards will be fully awarded regardless of pass/fail. If a quest says the reward is 50 points and a berry, then even failing teams will get those rewards.
- It is fine for personal quests to have a biased pass/fail outcome for CR purposes, such as a designated team being pre-arranged to be the only one who succeeds. However, this must be made clear beforehand OOCly, and the above point must be followed.
- Players may decide whether their quest is worth 50 points or 0 points. We're trusting players to use their best judgement! (ICly, points are always awarded by the guild leaders, but will still be awarded for non-joke personal quests that take effort. For example: "My important item is missing, please help me search the woods" or "I want to make a feast to cheer up my friend but I don't know how to cook, please help.")
- If a player would like to have their character ICly post a problematic quest and receive consequences from their guild leader, please contact the mods on the mod contact beforehand! (This is for quests that would be viewed as actively harmful, rather than silly ones.)
- Players may not have their own characters, even their other character, submit for a quest that they posted.
SUBMISSION FORMAT
Please use the following format to set up a player quest!
If you would like, you may also use the following format when responding with quest results (but this is not required)!
QUEST SIGN-UP
To claim and sign up for a quest, simply fill out the form below and reply to the current month's thread for mod quests, or to the individual quest for player quests. All quests require at least 2 characters to complete, with no maximum unless specified. Keep in mind that for quests requiring threading, 3 is probably a good number. Multiple quests can be signed up for in one comment.
PLAYERS: Players involved.
CHARACTERS: Characters involved. (2 minimum)
QUEST: Name of the quest you're signing up for.
SUMMARY: (Optional for light, required for heavy or player quests.) How will the quest be tackled? Write a short summary of how the characters intend to succeed and include any relevant details (tensions within the team, particular skills or weaknesses, any relevant triggers to avoid, etc.)
After claiming a quest, a mod will reply with confirmation and/or more details, and may request more information on how the team tackles the quest. For quests that are limited in some way, players who manage a sign up one month will be required to wait for 24 hours after quest posting to sign up for a limited quest the following month.

CHARACTERS: Akechi, Ren
QUEST: What Must Be, Moss Be
SUMMARY: Akechi... is not sure what it is about moss and dragons that fit together, but he's curious enough, and Ren is all too eager to go foraging for some mossy mischief. With Ren's sharp senses and Akechi's flight, it shouldn't be too difficult for them to find a healthy selection of samples from different places in the forest. Maybe they'll even find some with interesting colors.
QUEST COMPLETE
Beneath the blankets of fresh snowfall, the forest outskirts are rich with hidden stashes of moss. Using their combined mastery over air and land, Akechi and Ren collect a wide variety of species in all sorts of colours: green, light green, dark green, pale white on green...
It's a lot of green. This should not be a surprise, to be honest.
During their search, Ren uncovers a Shroomish trapped under the snow. She thanks them for their help and, after hearing about their quest for colorful moss, points them towards the Northern Forest. Just past the safe limits of the Spectrunk Forest is a small bog, covered in a fine layer of frost and ice. They'll have to tread carefully to avoid falling in the water, but a carpet of vibrant red moss can be gathered here to expand their palette.
When Ren and Akechi arrive with their spoils, Kris seems surprised. Did they not expect anyone to accept their request? Whatever the reason, they seem to get over it quickly as they check the quality of the samples. After nibbling the final moss, they nod with approval. "Red bog moss. Sick."
All great quests need a great reward. To go with the 50 points, Kris digs through their stash of items and comes up with a king's rock and a thick piece of charcoal for the two of them to fight over. Good job!

CHARACTERS: Flowey, Aegiomon
QUEST: What Must Be, Moss Be
SUMMARY: Go ahead. Eat his moss. His moss is really good and not poisoned or evil or tampered with in any way. You should eat the moss Flowey gathered from a surely safe and reliable source. Go ahead, do it. Are you a coward?
Aegiomon does not understand the hostility and thinks that any hesitation Kris may have is due to Kris being afraid to offend two Grass-types by eating moss in front of them.
QUEST COMPLETE
Beneath the blankets of fresh snowfall, the forest outskirts are rich with hidden stashes of moss. Who could be better at collecting plants than a pair of Grass types? Flowey and Aegiomon collect a variety of mosses growing from the low branches and along the forest floor, and only some of them look like they might be poisonous.
Everything seems to be going well... but they're not alone out here. A huge, terrifying Spearow swoops down and attacks Flowey with a powerful Peck! They'll have no choice but to defend themselves against this powerful, super-effective predator, or at least hit it a couple times to scare the poor thing away.
When Aegiomon and Flowey arrive with their spoils, Kris seems surprised. Did they not expect anyone to accept their request? Whatever the reason, they quickly turn annoyed when Flowey starts pushing moss on them. Making a point to ignore Flowey as much as possible, they check the quality of the samples, but only the ones brought by Aegiomon. To those, they give a nod of approval. To Flowey, they nudge back the offering, rejected. "Wolf lichen. Not a moss."
All great quests need a great reward. To go with the 50 points, Kris digs through their stash of items and comes up with a bag of tasty plain* seeds for Aegiomon, and the leftovers of a mostly-eaten apple for Flowey. Good job!
(* About half of them are actually Blinker Seeds. Not that Kris would be able to tell.)

CHARACTERS: Odile, Siffrin (Start Again)
QUEST: What Must Be, Moss Be
SUMMARY: Siffrinx has been kicked out of the clinic again by Anasui and needs something to do outside of town so they don't have to think. It's moss time.
Odile... is also here. (It cannot be overstated how much she doesn't care about the moss, she's just here to keep an eye on Siffrin)
There is a non-zero chance that at some point in their life Siffrin has tried to eat moss (or apparently, lichen?) actually... even if not with as much enthusiasm as Kris. It remains to be seen if this will actually help them identify any particularly tasty mosses. (No. No it will not, their memory isn't that good.) But at least they should have no trouble finding some!
They also went cliff-climbing last month and remember some seaside moss from that, Kris how would you li - oh wait Odile isn't letting them do that? Odile isn't letting them do that again without proper climbing gear. Nevermind.
QUEST COMPLETE
As cool as seaside moss would be, it's probably for the best that they stay away from any dangerous cliffs. For Odile's sake. Besides, beneath the blankets of fresh snowfall, the forest outskirts are rich with hidden stashes of moss!
... or they were. As Odile and Siffrin search the forest floor for moss, they'll find that this part of the forest has been picked clean of all the good moss. Has over-harvesting done them in already? Has Kris doomed the forest to an ecological collapse thanks to their unending, biblical greed for moss??
Thankfully, it is neither of these things. Following the path of destruction, they'll find a small herd of Stantler grazing away at tufts of fluffy moss. Unfortunately, the sudden arrival of two strange Pokemon startles them enough to attack! They'll need to be calmed down or defeated before either of them can grab some of that hard-earned deer-approved moss.
When Siffrin and Odile arrive with their spoils, Kris seems surprised. Did they not expect anyone to accept their request? Whatever the reason, they seem to get over it quickly as they check the quality of the samples. They nibble thoughtfully for a long time, but eventually nod with approval. "Reindeer moss. Not actually a moss. Still good, though."
All great quests need a great reward. To go with the 50 points, Kris digs through their stash of items and comes up with a moon stone and... a sticky, prickly barb? Whoever makes the mistake of touching the barb will have it stuck to them until the next person tries to remove it. Good job!

CHARACTERS: Noelle and Anasui
QUEST: WHAT MUST BE, MOSS BE
SUMMARY: Anasui and Noelle are going to try find the mossy rock for maximum efficency. If they do find it, Noelle will definitely be intrigued by it while Anasui will glare at it suspiciously and mutter something about green babies. If they don't find it, they'll just gather any moss in the area. Also, it's very important to note that Noelle judges Kris when she brings them the moss. Anasui will also start judging Kris when he finds out they intend to eat it (And it's not just some Pokemon thing).
QUEST COMPLETE
Beneath the blankets of fresh snowfall, the forest outskirts are rich with hidden stashes of moss. However, Noelle and Anasui have their sights set on a greater moss than the common varieties of the forest. They ask around, but most Pokemon don't seem to know what they're talking about. Aren't there mossy rocks all over the forest? Why would there be a special one? That's stupid.
Their persistence pays off, though, when Anasui gets a lead from a passing Leafeon. Of course, he knows about the Moss Rock! It's only the most important landmark in the entire forest! He even offers to lead them there, boasting at length about the Moss Rock's mythical powers and its long and storied history among the Eevees and Leafeons of the forest.
When they arrive at the Moss Rock, Leafeon is shocked to discover it entirely covered in a thick layer of ice! He spots a Glaceon lounging nearby and immediately starts a battle—giving her no time to explain that this is the Ice Rock, not the Moss Rock. With both Pokemon getting heated, they'll have no choice but to pick a side in the battle or defeat them both in order to sort out the confusion.
However they manage to end the battle, Leafeon will apologize for the mixup and promise to lead them to the real Moss Rock next time... as soon as he remembers where it is, exactly. At least he's willing to help them get some regular moss on the way back for their Eevee(?) friend.
When Anasui and Noelle arrive with their spoils, Kris seems surprised and a little embarrassed. Somehow, they didn't think Noelle would answer their request, too. They seem to get over it quickly, though, as they check the quality of the samples. After nibbling the final moss, they nod with approval. "Gold moss. Nice."
All great quests need a great reward. To go with the 50 points, Kris digs through their stash of items and comes up with... two lucky eggs? They don't remember where they got these from, but it's someone else's problem now. Good job!

CHARACTERS: Mayaka, Odile
QUEST: What Must Be, Moss Be
SUMMARY:
Mayaka's quest for knowledge leads her to various nooks and crannies in the Archives, but instead of finding a new book to read, she discovers what appears to be moss growing in a dimly lit corner of the library. She is kinda grossed out and very alarmed, and runs to find help! Luckily for her, Odile is nearby, and assesses the specimen to be harmless. Odile also recalls that Kris has been requesting for moss samples, and this is what the two of them deliver to the Deino. (Odile's just using Kris as a moss disposal system at this point!)
QUEST COMPLETE
Within the walls of the Archives, the dank corners of the bookshelves are rich with hidden stashes of moss... apparently. Odile and Mayaka waste no time in disposing of the mossy specimen. Kris seems surprised, though significantly less so than before considering Odile has already brought them moss this month. Is she, perhaps... a fellow moss-connoisseur? A commosseur, if you will?
Regardless, Kris is happy to check the quality of the sample. After nibbling the singular moss, they nod with approval. "Wall screw moss. Good for walls." They also attempt to offer some to Mayaka and Odile, in case they wanted a taste for themselves. Should either of them accept, it tastes bad. Maybe moss is just better suited to herbivores and... uh, dragons? Should they decline, Kris just looks disappointed. At least they won't hold it against them.
All great quests need a great reward. To go with the 50 points, Kris digs through their stash of items and comes up with an incredibly hard stone and a dragon fang... is that one of Kris's fangs? Don't worry about it. Good job!

CHARACTERS: Perrin, Laios
QUEST: What Must Be, Moss Be
SUMMARY: Following Perrin’s foraging expertise, the duo starts their hunt at the break of dawn. They’ll be avoiding any caves and caverns, instead heading deep into the Northern Forest. Laios has already experienced eating the wrong kind of wild mushrooms here before, so he’ll know what areas to avoid in case the moss is equally as stomach pain inducing.
QUEST COMPLETE
Beneath the blankets of fresh snowfall, the forest outskirts are rich with hidden stashes of moss. However, Perrin and Laios have their sights set on a greater moss than the common varieties of the forest. The duo venture deep, deeper, yet deeper until the early morning light is reduced to thin beams between snow-covered branches.
In the depths of the woods, where snow can only fall between the gaps in the canopy, there's far more greenery to be found here. As the pair start to gather mosses and lichens, they stumble upon something peculiar: a small mound with a tree, and beneath it a large protruding stone covered in lush and healthy moss. Could this be the legendary Moss Rock?
The moment they climb on to collect some, the ground begins to move! This is not the Moss Rock, but an agitated Torterra that immediately lashes out with a powerful Leaf Storm. It refuses to listen to reason, so they'll have no choice but to defeat it in battle before they can collect any more moss.
When Laios and Perrin arrive with their spoils, Kris seems surprised. Did they not expect anyone to accept their request? Whatever the reason, they seem to get over it quickly as they check the quality of the samples. After nibbling the final moss, they nod with approval. "Haircap moss. Pretty good."
All great quests need a great reward. To go with the 50 points, Kris digs through their stash of items and comes up with a shiny leaf and a perfectly normal and delicious oren berry, trust. Good job!

CHARACTERS: Guilmon, Impmon
QUEST: What Must Be, Moss Be
SUMMARY: Surprisingly, Impmon is actually taking this quest somewhat seriously as he and Guilmon sniff out tasty moss. Guilmon's sharp sense of smell should help a fair bit. ...Fragrant moss is good, right? And nice colors? Shenanigans may ensue, in part because the forest is Like That, but they are determined to succeed!
