QUESTBOARD

⋆✩ quests ✩⋆

One of the core responsibilities of guild members within Bottlecap Bay is to complete quests from the Questboard. Located in the center of the city, the questboard is a physical board where Pokemon can submit requests for help, resources, exploration, and all sorts of things. Each quest rewards characters with points to not only increase their member ranking, but also raise the guild ranking, thereby having a direct effect on the direction of the game!

QUEST TYPES

LIGHT QUESTS
These quests are simpler, RNG-style quests that are far more straightforward and don't require a summary or a thread! Light quests are available every month, but during TDM months, they are the only type of quest available, meaning that nothing plot heavy or significant will be placed into the quests. They also typically reward 50 points to characters, but occasionally reward 100 points.

HEAVY QUESTS
Heavy quests are more intensive, thread-required quests that often hold bits of plot or more intrigue, and are only available every other month. They are also often more dangerous than light quests, and unlike light quests, are not guaranteed to be completed when submitting for them! Depending on the results, these quests can reward anywhere from 200-300 points each depending on success! Characters may only participate in one heavy quest per month.

PLAYER QUESTS
These are quests submitted by other players, available as players come up with them. A player may submit a quest during any month, and may even post the same quest again on a subsequent month, when it makes sense ICly to do so. They are otherwise very similar to Light Quests; more information can be found below, but as a rule, they reward 50 points to characters.

ALL QUESTS
So what do all quests have in common? They must be submitted by the deadline date on the quest itself, and each character may claim points from a given quest only once, though they may repeat the quest with other teams as many times as they like.

Mod quests in particular will have difficulty levels, determined by the filled in stars on a scale of 1-3, with three filled stars being the most difficult. Difficulty can mean anything from physical danger to intensive puzzles, depending on the quest! Mod quests of both types may also sometimes have claim limits, with the number of teams allowed listed per quest.

Lastly, players can feel free to roleplay any of the NPCs that are not listed on the Locations page under the NPC section! If it's not game breaking or contradicting anything in the information available to players, then we generally play by the "do what's most fun!" rules.

PLAYER QUESTS
Player Quests are now open! These are quests ICly posted by your character to any of Bottlecap Bay's quest boards. They may be quests that are meant for the benefit of the city (or outlying outposts, or good relations with local Pokemon), or they may be quests for a character's personal concerns... and even joke quests are very welcome, for CR purposes!

(Just keep in mind IC reactions while devising a quest - guild leaders may choose not to reward points for "come perform a handstand for me," and there may be negative consequences for posting "assassinate my annoying guild coworker!")

Some general guidelines:

  • To respond to a player quest, other players may use the same submission form as for mod quests; they do not have to provide a thread, but do have to fill out the summary.
  • For all quests, quests may reward 50 points! Points track how helpful a character is overall, so they may be awarded for (reasonable, non-joke) personal quests as well!
  • For quests for the benefit of Bottlecap Bay, guild leaders will generally also allow for item rewards from guild resources. These rewards should be restricted to a single item or type of item chosen by the quest-writing player, and can be one of: berries, basic stones, basic accessories (with no special effects), or small furniture items. A character may also offer handmade items that they are able to make/obtain the resources for.
  • For personal quests, guild leaders will not allow for item rewards from guild resources... but a character may still offer handmade items that they are able to make/obtain the resources for!
  • Characters who are ICly posting the quest obviously cannot join their own quest! However, at mod discretion, posting a quest may result in extra points in the next point tally, particularly if the quest is for the benefit of Bottlecap Bay - the guild leaders will reward someone looking out for the success of the city.
To keep things fair and also manageable for the mods, at the moment the below are the policies for player quests. These may be updated in the future if we run into any problems!

  • Quests may not have limited entry slots.
  • Quest-writing players will decide whether responses pass or fail. (They may choose to respond with a blurb with more flavor details, or just a note saying pass/fail.)
  • Posted rewards will be fully awarded regardless of pass/fail. If a quest says the reward is 50 points and a berry, then even failing teams will get those rewards.
  • It is fine for personal quests to have a biased pass/fail outcome for CR purposes, such as a designated team being pre-arranged to be the only one who succeeds. However, this must be made clear beforehand OOCly, and the above point must be followed.
  • Players may decide whether their quest is worth 50 points or 0 points. We're trusting players to use their best judgement! (ICly, points are always awarded by the guild leaders, but will still be awarded for non-joke personal quests that take effort. For example: "My important item is missing, please help me search the woods" or "I want to make a feast to cheer up my friend but I don't know how to cook, please help.")
  • If a player would like to have their character ICly post a problematic quest and receive consequences from their guild leader, please contact the mods on the mod contact beforehand! (This is for quests that would be viewed as actively harmful, rather than silly ones.)
  • Players may not have their own characters, even their other character, submit for a quest that they posted.

SUBMISSION FORMAT
Please use the following format to set up a player quest!

If you would like, you may also use the following format when responding with quest results (but this is not required)!

QUEST SIGN-UP

To claim and sign up for a quest, simply fill out the form below and reply to the current month's thread for mod quests, or to the individual quest for player quests. All quests require at least 2 characters to complete, with no maximum unless specified. Keep in mind that for quests requiring threading, 3 is probably a good number. Multiple quests can be signed up for in one comment.

PLAYERS: Players involved.
CHARACTERS: Characters involved. (2 minimum)
QUEST: Name of the quest you're signing up for.
SUMMARY: (Optional for light, required for heavy or player quests.) How will the quest be tackled? Write a short summary of how the characters intend to succeed and include any relevant details (tensions within the team, particular skills or weaknesses, any relevant triggers to avoid, etc.)

After claiming a quest, a mod will reply with confirmation and/or more details, and may request more information on how the team tackles the quest. For quests that are limited in some way, players who manage a sign up one month will be required to wait for 24 hours after quest posting to sign up for a limited quest the following month.

MORPEKO, MORE PROBLEMS
QUEST GIVER: Bigby Wolf
DEADLINE: Must be submitted before January 25th, 11:59 PST.

Could use some extra hands with a couple of jobs around town. Shouldn’t be too hard to handle.

POINTS REWARDED: 50 points
EXTRA REWARDS?: One specially foraged seed

OTHER: Feel free to specify the type of odd job you might want (construction, gathering, deliveries, services, etc.). Otherwise, a wildcard option is just fine! Just note that while the quest will start off in one of those general directions, they also might veer wildly and ridiculously into Yakuza-style substories around Bottlecap Bay.

Also, Bigby doesn't have to tag along for these missions, but if you'd like him to, he can!

⟡ quest complete ⟡

The sun shines brightly on this crisp winter morning. It’s nice enough to forage, which is exactly the type of job Bigby has in mind for Perrin and Eleanor. A local jeweler needs a few Prism Scales for their next project, but as a Sandslash, they’re adverse to wading through any nearby water on their own. Surely this won’t be too much trouble for the two of them?

... make that the three of them. Looks like Bigby is tagging along on this adventure!

After some exploration, the group stumbles upon a rather sizable pond that could easily be mistaken for a smaller-than-average lake. This looks like a prime spot to fish up some scales, except just as they’re about to dive in, the Great Milotic of the Moderately-sized Body of Water emerges from the depths. If it’s Prism Scales they seek, she’ll offer them without a fight, so long as they bring her back the greatest treasure of all.

Bigby immediately wants nothing to do with this, but he’s convinced to carry on. Just as well, because they stumble upon a Slowbro who admits to having the exact treasure they’re looking for, if the trio can help escort them back home to get it. The journey is painstakingly long, with plenty of backtracking and wrong turns, but eventually, finally, they make it. With much appreciation, they receive the treasure in question: a Tiny Mushroom.

When they return after that long waste of time, Milotic can’t help but laugh. In truth, she just wanted someone to help her dear friend back home safe and sound. For what’s the greatest treasure, but the friends we’ve made along the way?

For their kindness, she grants them each a Prism Scale to take back to Sandslash in town. They’re shocked to find them returning so soon — they only just left! Despite what felt like hours in the forest, the group realizes it’s still only morning. Bigby grumbles like he should have seen that one coming.

For their troubles, Perrin and Eleanor both get 50 points, along with one Quick Seed each.

It’s a snowy afternoon, the perfect time to relax inside with a nice cup of cocoa. Parvati and Aegiomon, meanwhile, are doing some construction. At least Bigby made sure the gig will be indoors. With all the new apartments going up for the Lum Berries, Timburr could use some help building furniture. Surely this won’t be too much trouble for the two of them?

With an extra pair of hands and a set of vines to boot, they’re exactly the kind of crew Timburr was hoping for. As ecstatic as he is, in truth, he’s a little nervous too. This is his first real construction job in town, so he wants to do his very best to earn his keep. He’s heard rumors that the Foreman doesn’t mess around, and any slip up could be enough to cut him out of the business for good. No pressure though!

The crew is right on track with building all sorts of furniture, until a sudden visitor puts Timburr in a flurry. It’s Kecleon the Foreman, coming for an impromptu inspection! Before Timburr lets them in, he pulls Parvati and Aegiomon aside in desperation. Apparently, they’re completely behind schedule, and he needs help distracting Kecleon while also scrambling to put the finishing touches on some of the furniture around the apartment.

In what could best be described as a cat-and-mouse game of hijinks, the duo is able to pull off exactly what Timburr asked of them, with Kecleon none the wiser. They’ve done it! All the furniture has been (hastily) made, and Timburr gets to keep his job! Except, Kecleon knew exactly what they were doing the whole time. Admittedly, there was no deadline at all; the Foreman just likes to mess with new workers, but they didn’t think Timburr would go through the trouble of finishing the impossible.

Final feedback? Hard work is important but having fun makes life worth living. At least everyone can get a good laugh about it now. Kecleon says they should do this again sometime, before slowly turning invisible without another word.

Bigby checks in at just the right time to see Kecleon vanish into thin air. Did that guy just turn into sand or something? Anyway, he thinks Parvati and Aegiomon have done plenty for the day to earn their 50 points, along with one Vanish Seed each. Now go have some cocoa.

Despite the fresh blanket of snow, it’s a beautiful day outside. The Chatot are singing, the Cherrim are blooming... on days like these, kids like Shoka and Flowey should be gardening. Bigby personally drops them off with Raichu, who needs help picking and planting winter crops. Surely this won’t be too much trouble for the two of them?

Before leaving, Bigby sternly reminds them not to cause any trouble, or spend too much time playing with pocket devices. That sure seems pointed in both directions! Luckily, Raichu has no idea what that all means! She happily shows them around the garden, until she makes a shocking discovery: all her tools are missing.

Guess that means they won’t get to work after all. Bummer. Except, upon further inspection, it looks like there’s a mess of leaves around. Could it be the work of that new gang in town, the Grassy Bandits? She knows it’s not as fun as manual labor, but if Shoka and Flowey can find it in their hearts to find those pesky thieves, Raichu would be just as grateful.

Following the trail takes them deeper and deeper into the Northern Forest, before finally encountering a group of Grass Pokémon parading around a suspiciously shaped mound of snow. They’re too busy banging and clanking their makeshift instruments — including Raichu's tools — to notice anyone watching them. Sounds like they’re trying to summon the Spirit of the Forest to wish for an early spring?

Instead, they awaken a hibernating Torterra who lashes out with an Earthquake. With some quick wit and impromptu teamwork, Shoka and Flowey are able to ward it off with the help of the Grassy Bandits. Their leader, Vileplume, returns the stolen goods with an apology. They all just want the snow to be over with but forgot that even the coldest winter can bring the warmest spring.

After bringing back the tools, Raichu realizes she actually lent hers to a Lucario, so she’s not sure where those might have come from. Bigby eventually comes back, doubtful that any work got done at the garden, but gives them both 50 points, along with a Life Seed each.

It’s quite the chilly morning, so make sure to bundle up and have a warm drink in hand. With a lot of Pokémon staying indoors lately, there’s plenty of deliveries to be made, which Bigby is more than happy to load off onto Dolly and Hatenna at their request. Looks like Leavanny needs some help handing out a few accessories they’ve made. Surely this won’t be too much trouble for the two of them?

List of names and packages in tow, Dolly and Hatenna stop at various locations around town, successfully dropping off each delivery until there’s only a few left remaining. Barring the occasional chatty customer, everything seems to be right on track, until a nervous Archen slams right into them both. They’re instantly apologetic, offering to help pick up all the accessories scattered on the ground.

... only to fly away with them all once they do.

Dolly and Hatenna jump in pursuit of the thief, dodging and weaving through crowds, turning tight corners and running down alleys. For a while, the two almost lose them, but eventually they find the right trail of feathers leading them to the outskirts of town. As they close in on their target, Hatenna starts to develop a strong headache, before seeing Archen surrounded by snow-Pokémon in stolen accessories.

Sniffling, the Archen apologizes again, this time genuinely. They’re still new in town, and don’t have many real friends yet, so they made their own for now instead. As much as they know stealing is bad, they just wanted to dress up their snow-friends, even if only for a little while. They offer to help deliver the last remaining packages, but just as the trio is about to leave, a few juvenile bird Pokémon block the way. Seems like they’ve been making a game of bullying poor Archen lately!

After a quick battle to teach those kids a lesson, the flock realizes maybe Archen isn’t so different after all. As their parents say, a stranger is just a friend they haven’t gotten to know yet. To make amends, all the birds now agree to fly the rest of the accessories to their rightful owners, except one that doesn’t seem to have a name.

With all the deliveries now safely in the right hands, Dolly and Hatenna return the last accessory to Leavanny, who actually doesn’t remember making that one at all. Bigby’s there too, a little surprised that the duo took so long, but a job done is a job done. They’ve both earned 50 points, along with an Encourage Seed each.

⟡ quest complete ⟡

A chill wind howls through the Bay this afternoon. Locals bustle about town before hunkering down for another storm due, but Emporio and Catrina seem undeterred by what’s to come. After running down his list and checking it twice, Bigby finally suggests some crafting. As a seamstress, Mienshao needs an extra pair of hands and some good lighting. Surely this won’t be too much trouble for the two of them?

As the duo soon finds out, Bigby might have been a little light on the specifics for a reason. They could not have arrived at a better time, Mienshao tells them. She’s in an absolute tizzy, her shop is in utter disarray, and no one understands fashion. The entire winter collection she spent hours toiling over already is completely unsalvageable, despite it all looking quite nice actually. The first half of this job is simply just cutting through her dramatics.

After a quick motivational speech — or perhaps just some tough love — she’s suddenly invigorated with a new burst of creativity. With a snap of her claws, Mienshao quickly puts the two to work without scrapping her entire collection. Instead, she has them snipping and sewing and styling before unveiling her vision. Lo and behold, her now finished works of art, inspired by the dark mystique of fire and bone.

However, she can’t just let Emporio and Catrina walk out after all that. As her muses, they must try on her outfits to show off around town. She promises it will be a quick jaunt, just to show off a sneak peak to potential customers, but as the trio makes their way, they run into Lopunny and her equally fashionable crew. Looks like Lopunny had the same idea with her new winter collection too!

As competing seamstresses, the two must settle things the only way Pokémon know how: a double battle dressed to the nines. Emporio and Catrina very elegantly and stylishly fend off their opponents, but just as they're about to ramp up, Mienshao and Lopunny both call a truce. They see now how expertly crafted each outfit is, and they cannot bear to watch them get destroyed in a fight. Despite their heated rivalry, there is no better joy in life than a passion shared.

In the aftermath, Bigby happens to sneak by without catching Mienshao’s attention. Seems like he made a good call handing this job over, if modelling those outfits was a part of it. What's more? The storm threatening to plow through town doesn't happen after all. He gratefully gives them their 50 points, along with a Stun Seed each. All's well that ends well.

Noelle and Bigby are close, and Siffrin has a generally positive impression of Bigby after Noellequest and Longest Night, so both will be putting in genuine effort! Though since this is also an attempt to get to know each other, they may get distracted along the way. ⟡ quest complete ⟡

A low fog rolls off from the coast and into town. The sun just barely peeks through, making for quite the dreary sight. To help keep their minds off of bad weather, Bigby offers Siffrin and Noelle a rather cozy job: baking. With his assistants out sick, Pignite could use some help making and decorating cookies and pastries. Not to worry either, Siffrin; Bigby made sure Pignite has no clue what a croissant is or how to make one. Surely this won’t be too much trouble for the two of them?

While Pignite isn’t much of a talker, he is quite the enthusiastic baker. There’s plenty of work to do in his bakery, but outside of prepping and cleaning, he gives them free reign in the kitchen, offering his advice where he can. Sometime in the afternoon, Pignite realizes an order has yet to be picked up. It’s Mismagius, he explains, who lives out in these woods just past the Canopy. He wonders if the fog might have kept her from making the journey, but maybe Siffrin and Noelle can make the trip. It’s relatively short, but with all the fog, it’s hard not to feel like something’s watching them.

When they reach a small hut, that eerie feeling only gets worse. They enter after knocking gets no response, only to find themselves in a dark and dilapidated room. The way they came in seems to have vanished, and an unnerving and chilling presence fills the space. But once they’ve both hit their limit on being frightened, Mismagius finally appears in one last jump scare, and all goes back to normal. Don’t mind her mischief. She just likes to have a bit of fun in her old age.

She’s thankful for their delivery, if a little sad her friend Pignite couldn’t come. They used to have a lot of fun in the woods together. Despite how he is now, he used to be quite the crybaby, but she taught him that sometimes something scary might just be something familiar viewed from a different angle. She offers them a bit of tea before sending them back home.

When Siffrin and Noelle start to make their way back, whoever was following them earlier makes himself known — it’s Umbreon on patrol! He apologizes for not saying anything earlier, but he was worried that they might have gotten lost after all that time in the woods. Telling him about Mismagius and her hut only makes him more confused; he’s never seen either around here before.

Regardless, Umbreon helps escort them back to Pignite’s bakery, where Bigby’s waiting a bit worriedly. They’ve been gone for quite a while, but he’s glad to hear it went... okay? Maybe? Needless to say, he gives them both 50 points, along with a Soothing Seed each.
