QUESTBOARD

⋆✩ quests ✩⋆

One of the core responsibilities of guild members within Bottlecap Bay is to complete quests from the Questboard. Located in the center of the city, the questboard is a physical board where Pokemon can submit requests for help, resources, exploration, and all sorts of things. Each quest rewards characters with points to not only increase their member ranking, but also raise the guild ranking, thereby having a direct effect on the direction of the game!

QUEST TYPES

LIGHT QUESTS
These quests are simpler, RNG-style quests that are far more straightforward and don't require a summary or a thread! Light quests are available every month, but during TDM months, they are the only type of quest available, meaning that nothing plot heavy or significant will be placed into the quests. They also typically reward 50 points to characters, but occasionally reward 100 points.

HEAVY QUESTS
Heavy quests are more intensive, thread-required quests that often hold bits of plot or more intrigue, and are only available every other month. They are also often more dangerous than light quests, and unlike light quests, are not guaranteed to be completed when submitting for them! Depending on the results, these quests can reward anywhere from 200-300 points each depending on success! Characters may only participate in one heavy quest per month.

PLAYER QUESTS
These are quests submitted by other players, available as players come up with them. A player may submit a quest during any month, and may even post the same quest again on a subsequent month, when it makes sense ICly to do so. They are otherwise very similar to Light Quests; more information can be found below, but as a rule, they reward 50 points to characters.

ALL QUESTS
So what do all quests have in common? They must be submitted by the deadline date on the quest itself, and each character may claim points from a given quest only once, though they may repeat the quest with other teams as many times as they like.

Mod quests in particular will have difficulty levels, determined by the filled in stars on a scale of 1-3, with three filled stars being the most difficult. Difficulty can mean anything from physical danger to intensive puzzles, depending on the quest! Mod quests of both types may also sometimes have claim limits, with the number of teams allowed listed per quest.

Lastly, players can feel free to roleplay any of the NPCs that are not listed on the Locations page under the NPC section! If it's not game breaking or contradicting anything in the information available to players, then we generally play by the "do what's most fun!" rules.

PLAYER QUESTS
Player Quests are now open! These are quests ICly posted by your character to any of Bottlecap Bay's quest boards. They may be quests that are meant for the benefit of the city (or outlying outposts, or good relations with local Pokemon), or they may be quests for a character's personal concerns... and even joke quests are very welcome, for CR purposes!

(Just keep in mind IC reactions while devising a quest - guild leaders may choose not to reward points for "come perform a handstand for me," and there may be negative consequences for posting "assassinate my annoying guild coworker!")

Some general guidelines:

  • To respond to a player quest, other players may use the same submission form as for mod quests; they do not have to provide a thread, but do have to fill out the summary.
  • For all quests, quests may reward 50 points! Points track how helpful a character is overall, so they may be awarded for (reasonable, non-joke) personal quests as well!
  • For quests for the benefit of Bottlecap Bay, guild leaders will generally also allow for item rewards from guild resources. These rewards should be restricted to a single item or type of item chosen by the quest-writing player, and can be one of: berries, basic stones, basic accessories (with no special effects), or small furniture items. A character may also offer handmade items that they are able to make/obtain the resources for.
  • For personal quests, guild leaders will not allow for item rewards from guild resources... but a character may still offer handmade items that they are able to make/obtain the resources for!
  • Characters who are ICly posting the quest obviously cannot join their own quest! However, at mod discretion, posting a quest may result in extra points in the next point tally, particularly if the quest is for the benefit of Bottlecap Bay - the guild leaders will reward someone looking out for the success of the city.
To keep things fair and also manageable for the mods, at the moment the below are the policies for player quests. These may be updated in the future if we run into any problems!

  • Quests may not have limited entry slots.
  • Quest-writing players will decide whether responses pass or fail. (They may choose to respond with a blurb with more flavor details, or just a note saying pass/fail.)
  • Posted rewards will be fully awarded regardless of pass/fail. If a quest says the reward is 50 points and a berry, then even failing teams will get those rewards.
  • It is fine for personal quests to have a biased pass/fail outcome for CR purposes, such as a designated team being pre-arranged to be the only one who succeeds. However, this must be made clear beforehand OOCly, and the above point must be followed.
  • Players may decide whether their quest is worth 50 points or 0 points. We're trusting players to use their best judgement! (ICly, points are always awarded by the guild leaders, but will still be awarded for non-joke personal quests that take effort. For example: "My important item is missing, please help me search the woods" or "I want to make a feast to cheer up my friend but I don't know how to cook, please help.")
  • If a player would like to have their character ICly post a problematic quest and receive consequences from their guild leader, please contact the mods on the mod contact beforehand! (This is for quests that would be viewed as actively harmful, rather than silly ones.)
  • Players may not have their own characters, even their other character, submit for a quest that they posted.

SUBMISSION FORMAT
Please use the following format to set up a player quest!

If you would like, you may also use the following format when responding with quest results (but this is not required)!

QUEST SIGN-UP

To claim and sign up for a quest, simply fill out the form below and reply to the current month's thread for mod quests, or to the individual quest for player quests. All quests require at least 2 characters to complete, with no maximum unless specified. Keep in mind that for quests requiring threading, 3 is probably a good number. Multiple quests can be signed up for in one comment.

PLAYERS: Players involved.
CHARACTERS: Characters involved. (2 minimum)
QUEST: Name of the quest you're signing up for.
SUMMARY: (Optional for light, required for heavy or player quests.) How will the quest be tackled? Write a short summary of how the characters intend to succeed and include any relevant details (tensions within the team, particular skills or weaknesses, any relevant triggers to avoid, etc.)

After claiming a quest, a mod will reply with confirmation and/or more details, and may request more information on how the team tackles the quest. For quests that are limited in some way, players who manage a sign up one month will be required to wait for 24 hours after quest posting to sign up for a limited quest the following month.

PLAYERS: Finch, Mega, Yon, Sapphire
CHARACTERS: Ingo, Guilmon, Impmon, Archnemon
QUEST: BOUNTY: FRIGHTENING FREEZE
SUMMARY:
Ingo is a good natural leader for this group's outing, as he stands as a functional adult with the needed familiarity of navigating the cold and snowy areas, and no stranger to dealing with illusions. Being used to Hisui's climate has prepared him well for this sort of tracking and experience, and he's a natural guide, and has also become very familiar with the terrain in the mountains here, having participated in mapping it as well. His part fire typing is an additional benefit in the cold conditions for himself and to help provide the group with warmth, though is also part ghost type as well.

Guilmon despite being a child, also provides additional warmth for the group. Being a pure fire type, he can weather the cold (though any water might be an issue), which will be helpful for staying power. His notable strength in having a capable nose will definitely be useful for tracking, and potentially help against illusions as well. And of course, he is very good at digging, and has some ground abilities that would come in handy.

Impmon, also essentially a child has the spirit needed for adventure (even if a bit oil on water), and likely the one needing the most looking after (to his chagrin), as he is impulsively likely to throw himself into harms way in order to protect the others, as he tends not to think of his own well-being. He rounds out the group, being a dark/ghost type, and a strong defensive type for adventuring. He only knows scratch and astonish as part of his moveset, but his claws are fairly powerful for digging as well, should any issues arise.

Archnemon will be preparing by bundling up as she's acquired warmer gear (and staying close to her friendly heat sources). She is also familiar with navigating the area, having helped create the initial maps and study them further afterward. Due to becoming more accustomed to her nature as a psychic type, she has learned to manipulate the grumpearls for small localized purposes to help the group so they can attempt to avoid notice or having to do too much speaking aloud to try and minimize environmental or other dangers (and potentially useful for dealing with illusions), and maintaining connection if they accidentally get separated. She brings most of the support abilities with her should they encounter any difficulties (this is just babysitting.). Her downside of course is if she gets waylaid by emotions while tracking them, and despite assisting with defenses for others is still more on the fragile side, but this is why one brings a team.

QUEST BEGINS

[personal profile] bayhelpers 2026-02-15 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)

⟡ quest begins ⟡

While the team may enter the region of Icefall Lake with strong ideas of where to go, and who to look for, the reality of their trip is anything but simple. In the aftermath of the recent avalanche, the team is forced to take greater caution as they wade through the snow - and the biting chill of the wind feels almost deliberate in its malice.

While their party is certainly larger than average, it doesn't carry the disadvantages that most would worry about with a group like this. Among the team, it seems that many of them have honed unique talents, each with their own use. As long as they avoid the lake, they'll be entirely safe; Guilmon can help Ingo to keep them on track using his personal experience, while Impmon's digging abilities will be a fantastic boon. With the Grumpearls they have on hand, they can even manage splitting up for a time - though staying together may still be wise.

It's cold, but not as cold as it could be thanks to the team's Fire type members. Travelling through the snow outside becomes almost comfortable as a result, but in turn, venturing into the sheltered regions carries other dangers. At alternating moments within the caves and the ice crevasse alike, Impmon hears and sees the visions of taunting forms of himself, tempting him into attack; it is only the strength of the others that can keep him in line. It's the exact sort of challenge that threatens to send them all home...but as they debate this very fact, something changes. It's faint at first, but once outside, Archnemon picks up on a unique pang of emotion, which grows stronger as the feeling is pursued. A slurry that could send anyone running - immense, agonizing pain, anguish, and anger. It's not coming from the lake however. Nor the crevasse or caves they explored.

But where could this Pokemon be, if not here? Or perhaps...

Through all of your investigations, one thing has become clear despite your challenges. The trail that you're following...it isn't normal. Not at all. This trail is leading you up the very mountain you've been circling - it's a path far beyond the areas this Pokemon was initially sighted in, and that means it's moving. With purpose, in fact, to a place whose destination has now become clear to the team. It's a place you could have never predicted going to from here - or perhaps you could? Perhaps as a team, your deductions led you here long before the feeling sinking into each of your bones.

Something beckons. A wash of power, almost corroding in nature, comes over you the longer you delay. Your target is there...

At the peak of the mountain, in a field of white.

Please fill out the unique form below sometime before the February 25th deadline so that your quest can be considered completed. Please note that you have flexibility and freedom in threading this quest and any related NPCs (aggressive Pokemon, lightning storms, rough winds, etc). The only important thing is that further detail for players will come with their quest conclusion; threads need only have one or more comments from each participant to qualify for submission.

Are there any injuries sustained? Describe them briefly: Not too much in terms of serious physical injuries, as they're also prepared to respond with healing/defensive moves, with Guilmon acting to directly keep Impmon from harm, and Ingo will better position himself ahead of them to cushion any potential blows due to also being a final-stage pokemon (being part ghost might affect him here). The biggest challenge for Archnemon will be staying focused and not getting completely overwhelmed by the obvious emotional output by their target, or anything else that might negatively affect a psychic type not easily blocked, depending on what sort of moves are thrown out there, so she'll be worn out from the extra efforts of all of this regardless (though would be displeased to end up in the clinic yet again for monitoring should something go awry).

How do they ultimately deal with the region's challenges?: The combined warmth of two fire types will definitely come in handy for not falling to too bitter of a cold, and the digging if any blocked paths should get in their way, or tunnels to avoid potential conflicts. They are absolutely avoiding the lake. Impmon is definitely more likely to get into a situation, but once it becomes clear that he's being taunted by illusions of himself trying to goad him into trouble, once they talk him down, Guilmon will then take the main efforts in focusing on keeping him from getting hurt from that point forward- mostly by "scruffing" attempts to pull Impmon back from harms way as a method to intervene to avoid causing additional disturbances to any of the mountain's already agitated pokemon so they can make their way to the clearing, with assistance from the others. It's at this point that Ingo will briefly consider if they should send the younger two back for concerns of their safety for the rest of the journey, though Archnemon would point out that there's no telling if they would be safe on the way back, so the group stays together to face the rest of the challenges. A lot might hedge on her ability to keep up with the support abilities (light screen, reflect, heal pulse) should the battle get out of hand.

Are they prepared for combat?: Yes - this group consists of those who generally have a state of mind to be battle-ready as an expectation even if they aren't looking for it directly. Since for the most part despite varying move pools most of them were once digimon, and Ingo having been a pokemon warden knows always to be prepared for battle strategy when headed into the unknown.

Given the choice, would they spare their target?: Ultimately yes. Impmon would only have an issue or express concern if anyone else but him were seriously injured during the course of the fighting, but Ingo and Guilmon would already be disposed toward mercy due to their kind natures (even if Ingo would be dismayed if it did turn out to be connected to Froslass it wouldn't change his nature, and Guilmon knows that sparing has been done before), and Archnemon would be in agreement for it as well (despite any issues, it all hits too close to home for personal reasons she definitely is Not Thinking About.) There's also a chance the distressed Pokemon could have been influenced by the dreams as well, given how widespread those issues were.
